Inspired By Fabric for Power Poppy

The monthly Power & Spark Challenge over at the Power Poppy blog was a tough one for me this time around. We had to create a card inspired by fabric....something totally out of my comfort zone! I kept going back to the challenge all month, I cruised Pinterest to see if I could find anything that spoke to me and on Weds I finally found a picture of some fabric that I liked and that I felt I could create a card around, enabling me to get creating and just squeaking in for the challenge.

This is the image I chose:

And here is my card:

I used the red and yellows as my inspiration on my card, pulling in the green and blue also seen in some of the fabric in the photo. The circles on the cup in the image mimic the very circles found in the patterns of the fabric.

Fly Guy Fathers Day

There is a new Hues to Use challenge up on the Power Poppy blog and I really love these colors, they are nice and masculine. I sat there for a bit thinking about what set I could use and decided to use the Fly Guy digital set. My husband loves fly fishing and this image always makes me think of him.

The cream color was brought in on the rocks, some of the grass and reflection in the water. The green is the grasses, his clothing and the fish. The brown was used on his waders and hat, rocks and the bottom edges of the grass.

O-Fish-Ally Awesome

It's Inspiration Week for Little Miss Muffet Stamps and this week I am using such a fun image, Maurice Caught One. My husband and youngest son love to fish and so this image makes me think of them and their fishing adventures!

I decided to cut a frame out of green patterned paper and then used blue patterned paper to fill in the background. The image was colored with copics and then I popped him up for some extra dimension. The sentiment is from a Lawn Fawn set and I stamped it and then cut the words into different pieces and popped those up with dimensionals also.

Don't forget, the Anything Goes challenge over at the Little Miss Muffet Stamps blog is still open so head over there to play along with us!

Pinecones and Bells

It's time for a new challenge over at The Merry Christmas Challenge and as always it's Anything Goes, with an optional theme this week of 'bells'.

For my card I used this stamp from Power Poppy called Rustic Rejoicing. I love these pinecones with the bells dangling round them. I colored the image with my copics and then to give it a little more pizzazz I did paper piercing around all of the edges. I really like the final look it gave!

Patriotic Love

My nephew is entering week 7 of boot camp and I know he is feeling the pressure so I needed another card to send him some encouragement. When I saw the sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch I liked it and wanted to give it a try.

For my card I combined several current and retired SU sets. Because it's military themed I stayed with the colors of red, white and blue and after inking up all the sections I scored lines across the card, inspired by the stripes on the flag, and this gave it a little more "oomph" than when I just had the plain white card base.

Columbine for Sunday Stamps

It's time for a new challenge over at Sunday Stamps and this week we have a color challenge. The graphic and colors are all about Easter but since I don't celebrate Easter I wanted to take my card in a different direction. I used the new Cup of Columbine digital set from Power Poppy for a spring inspired card instead.

I love columbine, they are one of my favorite flowers! I have them all over my flower beds and I love how they seed themselves and every year seems to bring new color combos. For my card I used my soft yellow columbines as inspiration and then brought the blue in for the cup and the purple in for the cloth the cup is sitting on. The card base is Mint Macaron and I also used some Mint Macaron and Daffodil Delight DSP.

Make sure to head on over to the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us, we'd love to see how you use these colors!

Best Mom for LMMS

Some new images were released over at Little Miss Muffet Stamps today and Polka Dot Pals Febiana is one of them. With the current superhero craze going on right now she is perfect for the strong girl/woman in your life!

My husband and boys are big time comic geeks so I printed Febiana out and then asked my 19 yr old son how I should color her. He suggested basing her on the character Captain Marvel so that is what I did! I did print out a second one and for that one I'll color her hair brown....even though Captain Marvel is blonde we need to give us brunettes some superhero love too LOL I decided to make this a Mothers Day card so finished the inside with a sentiment saying "World's Best Mom"

Celebrate Christmas Music

It's the first day of spring and I'm posting a Christmas card, I think that is pretty fitting for me LOL I'm definitely a winter girl and I'm not overly thrilled about spring and I don't care for summer at all, although I do enjoy tending to my flowers and lawn.

Anyway, today's card is for the Jingle Belles challenge, which is to celebrate music. It can be in the form of sheet music, musical notes or musical instruments. I love Christmas music and listen to it year round (much to the dismay of my husband) so I was happy to see this prompt!

In their Christmas catalog Stampin Up had this fabulous musical themed DSP. It made it very easy to come up with this card! I took a panel of the sheet music DSP and then used a strip of black snowflake paper from the same set to go down the right side of the panel. I then divided the 2 panels with some black ribbon lined with silver. The image is from a retired SU set and I thought it was perfect for this paper and challenge! I cut out several pieces from the paper so I can make at least 5 of this card, I really like it, even with the non traditional colors of black and white.

Easter Wishes

For this card I played along with the Power Poppy Hues to Use challenge from March 6. It took me a while to think of something because of the pink and purple hues. We all know how much I love those colors, not LOL They always stump me but I scrolled through my Power Poppy digi's and finally settled on this Easter image.

I decided to color the egg purple and the ribbon and flower the pink. Then I brought the pink in some more with the background paper and used the green for the leaves and the background paper. My purple isn't as vibrant as the one in the graphic though.

Cheers for LMMS

It's Inspiration Week at Little Miss Muffet Stamps and this week I'm showcasing a newly released image called Polka Dot Pals Temoc. She is perfect for the cheerleader in your life, or for any girl that you want to send an encouraging word too.

My layout was inspired by a recent sketch over at the CASE(E) this Sketch blog. I used die cuts to create the frame out of patterned paper and then I used a retired SU set to create the splatter background. After putting the striped paper across the card front I adhered the frame over the splatter and then popped up my image in the middle of the frame. I used a sentiment from a retired SU set, and it's perfect for several different occasions. The colors I used for my image were pulled right from the patterned paper I used.

The Anything Goes challenge over at the Little Miss Muffet Stamps blog is still open so head on over there and play along with us! Don't forget to stop by the FB group and see what's going on there also.

Happy Heart

It's time for a new challenge over at The Merry Christmas Challenge blog and as always it's an Anything Goes theme, with this week having the optional theme of "inspired by the Grinch movie".

I didn't really have anything in my stash that was directly related to the Grinch movie so I decided to think outside of the box. One of the most famous lines from the movies comes towards the end...."Well, in Whoville they say - that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day. And then - the true meaning of Christmas came through, and the Grinch found the strength of *ten* Grinches, plus two". In the spirit of that quote I decided to focus on the heart and pulled out this older snowman set from MFT. The heart is nice and big, just like how the Grinch's heart ended up that day!

Make sure and head on over to The Merry Christmas Challenge blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us, we'd love to see what you create!

Happy Retirement

It's time for a new challenge over at the Sunday Stamps blog and this week we have a fun sketch from Claire!

A good friend of mine requested a card for her brother who retired last week. I went through my stash and decided to use this older image from Heather Ellis, the artist who does the Pure Innocence images for MFT. It's a digital image I got from her when her Etsy shop was open.

I also used some retired SU DSP for this card. What can I say, I'm a hoarder LOL I love these darker, more masculine colors, and thought they would be perfect for this card. The sentiment is from a SugarPea Designs set,

Make sure you head on over to the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then join in and play along with our sketch! We'd love to see how you interpret it.

Firing On All Cylinders

We're a Mustang family at my house so as soon as I saw this new stamp from Unity Stamp Co I had to get it. It's of a 1966 Mustang Convertible but I colored it in using our former 1965 Mustang Coupe for inspiration. We belonged to the Kitsap Mustang Club in WA state when we had the '65 and it used to drive hubby crazy when people called the car orange, as the official color was called  Poppy Red. The 66 Mustangs did not have the Poppy Red option so I took creative license when coloring this image :) Besides the '65 we've also owned a 2001 Mustang Convertible, we currently have a 2016 Mustang GT and right before we met hubby had a 1968 Mustang Coupe (my favorite year, I LOVE the '68 Stangs!).

The current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches was the perfect way to use this stamp for the first time! I love the big panel in the sketch that lets you highlight any image you want!

And the inspiration for my card, the 1965 Mustang Coupe we owned when we lived in WA state.

In This Together

As soon as I saw this sketch over at The Paper Players I instantly knew what I wanted to do, but then the week got busy so here I am getting the card in before the challenge closes on Friday!

My nephew is currently finishing up week 3 of Army boot camp out on the east coast and so this card is to send him some encouragement. When I joined the Navy (in the Dark Ages according to him LOL) I remember how much getting mail meant to me. All these years later I still have every single letter I received in boot camp. I even have the letters my dad sent my grandma when he went through USMC boot camp during Vietnam.

This set is from Stampin Up and is called Loyal and True. SU really doesn't have any DSP that is patriotic so I used some paper I got from a local scrap store. I like how the main image didn't stamp perfectly clean, it gives it a nice muddled look that makes me think of camo, which is perfect!

I forgot to take a picture of the inside, but I stamped a sentiment that reads "We are in this together, no matter how far apart". Perfect for this situation!

Thanks for stopping by!

Amazing, Awesome, Talented You

It's Inspiration Week at Little Miss Muffet Stamps and this week I'm showcasing Polka Dot Pals Shania. She's so sweet and the perfect image for the little ballet lover in your life. I went with one of my favorite color palettes, blue and yellow. The sentiment is from a retired SU set, I thought it went perfectly with this image!

Don't forget, the Anything Goes challenge over at the Little Miss Muffet Stamps blog is still open, so head on over there and play along with your favorite LMMS image (not required to use Little Miss Muffet Stamps images!).
