Sketchy Chevrons for Friday Mashup

Happy Friday! How many folks have a candy hangover? I know I sure do! We don't get a lot of kids where I live so I always make sure to buy plenty of candy that we just "happen" to have left over, hehehehe :)

Today's Friday Mashup is brought to us by Holly, and she is all about a sketch that incorporates chevrons. Some of you with a keen eye may recognize this as a layout from a card in the holiday mini. Because I'm not a fan of chevrons(I'm really trying to ignore the whole chevron craze) and because the sketch stumped me I went simple and CASE'd the card from the catalog. I changed up a few things, such as the card base, glitter, coloring in the image and the use of a banner in the top right corner.

This is also the first challenge with all of our new design team members so I hope you'll come by the Friday Mashup blog, check out their creations and play along!

I'm also entering this card over at Merry Monday, as the challenge there this week is all about Santa! I love Santa, he is one of my favorite things about Christmas!

Create a project with "the Sketch."

Create a project using "Chevrons."

Or Mash it Up and create a project "with the above Sketch & Chevrons. "

Stripes and a Sketch for TTS#3

It's Thursday so that means a new 'Tis The Season challenge! This week we have a sketch for you, with the option of using stripes on your project!

Even though there is an ornament on the graphic you don't have to use one...I did because it just happened to work well with the idea I had going in my head. I stamped the ornament in Bermuda Bay and then used the matching framelit to cut it out. It's popped up with dimensionals and I used silver stretch cording to act as a hanger for the ornament. The DSP is Winter Frost, which can be found in the holiday mini, and is perfect for the stripes option. For a little more visual interest I added some rhinestones on my ornament.

I'd like to thank those that are coming out to play with us at 'Tis The Season, we are having so much fun! Only 55 days until Christmas! However, since today is Halloween I hope you have a SPOOKTACULAR DAY!

Baby Congratulations

My husband has a coworker that will be taking maternity leave soon and he asked me to make a card for her. I ended up using mostly retired items but I still really love how the card came out!

I started with Certainly Celery(retired) as my card base and then added some Delicate Dots(retired) DSP. Since my husband doesn't know if she is having a girl or boy I thought this was perfect paper for a gender neutral baby card. I embossed a panel of So Saffron with the Square Lattice folder and matted that on more Certainly Celery. The Two by Two stamp is also retired but I think its such an adorable image! I finished it off with some Certainly Celery across the middle and if this layout looks familiar to some its because it was
recently a sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches.

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Two by Two(retired)
Paper: Certainly Celery(retired), So Saffron, Whisper White, Delicate Dots DSP(retired)
Ink: Black StazOn, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Smoky Slate, So Saffron, More Mustard, Bashful Blue(retired)
Accessories: Big Shot, Square Lattice EF, Certainly Celery Ribbon(retired), dimensionals

All About the Title on MDS Monday

Over at MDS Monday Joan has a great layout for us, and the focus is on the title.

I turned 40 on Oct.11 and for the first time in 20 yrs, since our oldest was born!, my husband and I went on a little getaway together. We drove down to Seward Alaska, a gorgeous little coastal town that is a must see for anyone that comes to Alaska. We stayed at the military resort and spent our days wandering the area and enjoying the solitude. It rained the entire time we were there, absolutely pouring at times, but that didn't hurt our trip at all. Rain or shine Seward is a fantastic place!

Have some fun with My Digital Studio and
go play with the gals at MDS Monday!

Cake and Colors for Friday Mashup

It's Friday Mashup time again and this week we say goodbye to another DT member, Amy. She is the host of this weeks challenge and I hope you'll come over and play along, and say goodbye to her. You can follow Amy at her blog HERE so you don't have to miss any of her beautiful creations!

Amy has a color challenge for us, plus she also wants to see cake on our project. The colors to use are

Coastal Cabana, Crushed Curry, Smoky Slate & Basic Grey.

This stumped me for a bit but since I needed to make an anniversary card for my aunt and uncles 20th wedding anniversary I grabbed the Love & Laughter set and used the cake from there. I used Smoky Slate and Crushed Curry markers to color the stamp. The Smoky Slate was embossed for one of the panels behind the image and then I used some Coastal Cabana DSP.

With this cake stamp I like more definition so I drew in lines around the cake and added some tiny pearls to the corners.

Make sure you come play along with us at The Friday Mashup and say goodbye to Amy!

  1. Create a project with the colors "Coastal Cabana, Crushed Curry, Smoky Slate & Basic Grey."
  2. Create a project with a "Cake."
  3. Or Mash it Up and create a project "with a Cake using the colors above."

Home for the Holidays for MDS

My son has to be at work at 4am Monday morning so I figured I'd stay up and work on an MDS challenge. No sense in going to sleep when I stay up to 4am during the week anyway due to my work schedule.

Beth has a card sketch for us and I decided to go with a Christmas card, using the Jingle and Joy Kit. My favorite colors are blue and green and I seemed to have stuck with that a bit on this card, using Pool Party and Gumball Green with a touch of Calypso Coral and Very Vanilla.

It's a pretty simple card :)

Autumn Birthday Wishes

My uncles birthday is this week and I needed to get a card done for him ASAP. The challenges at Sunday Stamps, The Paper Players and Freshly Made Sketches were perfect to play along with! It's been a long time since I've been able to combine 3 of my favorite challenge blogs so this was a fun card to make!

Sunday Stamps has a unique fall color scheme this week...Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie and Bermuda Bay. I wasn't quite sure how I was going to incorporate the Bermuda Bay but it ended up working quite well as the embossed panel behind the tree image. I embossed the panel with the Square Lattice EF and backed with some Pumpkin Pie. Since my uncle lives in Massachusetts I thought this tree would be a great image to use, not only because of October and New England fall colors, but because my uncle is strong and has been the roots that kept our family strong through the deaths of my grandparents and my father in the last few years.

For the sketch I used some burlap for the strip across the middle. It's the first time I've used the burlap since I ordered it and I rather like it! The panel with the tree on it is popped up with dimensionals and even though I *tried* not to do any sponging (my daughter says I'm addicted to sponging) I ended up using Chocolate Chip along the edges. It looked too plain to me without it!

The challenge at The Paper Players is to make a CAS masculine card....birthday card for my uncle fits the bill  and I think this card is pretty CAS!

Thanks for stopping by!

Falling Leaves for Friday Mashup

Happy Friday! It's been a long week and I am ready to veg at home with the family this weekend!

This week Liliana is our Friday Mashup hostess and I am so sad to say this is her last challenge on the design team. I just love Liliana's work and am going to miss her! If you don't already I highly suggest following Lili's blog
HERE. Thanks for being such a wonderful DT member Lili, I learned a lot from you!

So what does Liliana want us to do? Well, she wants to see projects with leaves on them and she also wants us to use her favorite color...orange!

For my card I used the Bigz Autumn Accents die for the leaves, and punched them out of Crushed Curry and Tangerine Tango. I then embossed the leaves and inked them up with their respective colors, plus sponged on some Chocolate Chip. I added some candy dots in the upper corners as I thought it looked a bit bare.

My layout came from last weeks sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches. I didn't get a chance to play along but I loved the sketch!

I sure hope you'll head over to the Friday Mashup and join in on Liliana's challenge!

  1. Create a project with a "Tree or Leaves."
  2. Create a project using the "Color Orange."
  3. Or Mash it Up and create a "Project with Leaves/ Tree & the Color Orange."

Bright Colors for 'Tis The Season

I'd like to thank the wonderful crafters who played along with our very first challenge over at 'Tis The Season! I love Christmas cards and I just adore seeing what people come up with so again, thank you!

This week we have a color challenge for you...Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise and Pear Pizzazz, with the option of using glitter. I wont lie, I am very traditional when it comes to Christmas colors so this was a tough one for me.

I finally decided to use Tempting Turquoise as my main card base and then created a layered section with Pear Pizzazz and Melon Mambo. I embossed with Melon Mambo layer with the Stylish Stripes EF that can be found in the holiday catalog. For my image I grabbed the retired set Wonderful Winterland, I just love the sweet stamps in this set! To color in the figures I used the colors from the challenge and also added a few neutrals for some of the smaller details.

For the glitter I used Tempting Turquoise brads and also added some Dazzling Details under the images, like they were sitting on snow.

I sure hope you'll come
join us over at 'Tis The Season! Our challenges last for 2 weeks so there is  plenty of time to join in!

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Wonderful Winterland
Paper: Tempting Turquoise, Pear Pizzazz, Melon Mambo, Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise DSP, Pear Pizazz DSP

Spooky Sketch for Friday Mashup!

Happy Friday! This is a special Friday for me....it's my 40th birthday!! Wow, where have the years gone? I'm looking forward to the next 40 yrs and the adventures that await!

What better way to celebrate than with my gals from The Friday Mashup. Amanda is our host this week and she has a great sketch for us, plus she wants us to make our project spooky. I don't know if I succeeded with the spooky part but I did make a Halloween card. Does the name of the stamp I used, Frightening Feline, count as spooky? :)

I don't make a lot of Halloween cards so my Halloween supplies sit around and accumulate. The DSP and stamp on this card are both retired but I still love them. In place of the button I added some candy dots around the circle panel. I can never get buttons to look right on my projects and rarely use them.

I hope you'll come by The Friday Mashup and play along with us...you'll have a SPOOKTACULAR time :)
  1. Create a project using "the Sketch."
  2. Create a "Spooky" project.
  3. Or Mash it Up and create a "Spooky project using the above sketch. "

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Frightening Feline(retired)
Paper: Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Ghostly Greetings DSP(retired)
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black

Christmas has gone to the birds....

At least over at Merry Monday anyway :) If you haven't guessed, the prompt over at Merry Monday is to create a Christmas card with a bird on it. This gave me the perfect opportunity to use this sweet little Christmas bird from the For the Bids set.

I used the Winter Frost DSP from the holiday catalog and kept my colors from this DSP. I used Island Indigo with a splash of Pool Party (see what I did there...splash..pool party..LOL) and when I colored in the bird I also brought in some Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana with just a touch of Cherry Cobbler and Daffodil Delight.

The circle image panel is popped up with dimensionals and the edges were lightly sponged with Island Indigo. I used a blender pen to widen the "merry" in the sentiment a bit.

My sketch was inspired by an older Friday Mashup challenge.

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: For the Birds, More Merry Messages
Paper: Island Indigo, Pool Party, Whisper White, Winter Frost DSP
Ink: Island Indigo, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight

Thankful for....MDS Monday!

I had some time late Saturday night to sit with my laptop so I headed over to the MDS Monday blog to play along with the latest card sketch challenge!

I used the Sweater Weather DSP and the Thankful stamp for this card. I just love that plaid background, and I tried several colors before settling on Soft Sky for the layer in the middle. All the other colors were just too overwhelming and I really wanted to keep the plaid.

Head over to MDS Monday and check them out! This particular challenge is open until Oct.11...my 40th birthday!!

Boise State Birthday

A friend of mine asked me to make a card for her sons grandpa, who happens to be a big fan of Boise State. It gave me the perfect opportunity to play along with Freshly Made Sketches!

I decided to keep the card pretty simple so I just focused on the team colors, blue and orange. I used the color spritzing tool to add some splatter on the Naturals White Background and the circle focal point was cut in Pumpkin Pie and then embossed with the Square Lattice folder. For the sentiment I used  Pacific Point and Pumpkin Pie to color the words. I lightly sponged Pacific Point around all the edges. The panel the sentiment is layered on is popped up with dimensionals. To finish it off I added brads in the corners.

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Happy Birthday Wishes(retired)
Paper: Pacific Point, Pumpkin Pie, Naturals White
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Pacific Point
Accessories: Big Shot, Square Lattice EF, Nestabilities Circle Dies, Color Spritzer Tool, Brilliant Blue Brads(retired), sponge, dimensionals

Ripped Paper and Fussy Cuts for Friday Mashup

Hello and happy first Friday of October! Can you believe it's October already? October is a mixed bag for me, lots of sadness associated with this month but also a lot of fun things to look forward too...like Friday Mashup challenges! This week our challenge is brought to us by Tara and she wants to see ripped paper and fussy cut images on our projects. Now, I fussy cut quite often so you'd think this would have been an easy challenge for me but nope, it had me stumped. Maybe it was the ripped paper portion, I don't know, but I came down to the wire on getting this card done LOL

I ended up creating a Christmas card using the set Remembering Christmas from the holiday catalog. This deer image will also be great for making masculine cards throughout the year! Anyway, I stamped it in Early Espresso and then cut it out. I mounted it with dimensionals on some ovals I cut out using Nestabilities dies. The paper is from the retired DSP Candlelight Christmas. I thought it looked like pretty wallpaper...perfect for hanging a deer against ;)

I stamped the sentiment below the ripped DSP in Early Espresso and added some Very Vanilla candy dots in the upper corners as I thought it looked a little plain.

Make sure you head over to  The Friday Mashup blog to check out the rest of the great projects from the DT, and then play along with us!

  1. Create a project with "Ripped paper."
  2. Create a project with a "a fussy cut image." (Cut something out)
  3. Or Mash it Up and create a project "with some Ripped paper & something Fussy Cut."

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Remembering Christmas
Paper: Real Red, Very Vanilla, Candlelight Christmas DSP
Ink: Early Espresso, Real Red
Accessories: Big Shot, Nestabilities Ovals/Scalloped Ovals, Very Vanilla Candy Dots, sponge, dimensionals

It's time for our first challenge over at 'Tis the Season and I am so excited!

To kick things off we have a sketch challenge for you, and we also want to see some ribbon on your card! Pretty easy Christmas card to get you going right?

I used a set from the SU holiday catalog called Santa's List. I just love Santa and this image of him is such a classic one, I really like it. I stamped the image in Black StazOn and then used Cherry Cobbler and Smoky Slate to color him in, along with a Blush Blossom watercolor crayon for the skin tone. My DSP is from the Season of Style Paper Pack, I love the fun polka dots!

I hope you'll come join us over at 'Tis the Season! Even though the DT is using Stampin'Up! you can play along with any product you'd like!
