Blue Poppy Congrats

For today's card I am combining 2 challenges....the world flag challenge from the Power Poppy Creative Confetti challenge and the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

When I started reading the June 11 challenge over at Creative Confetti Sheldon Cooper and his "Fun with Flags" segment automatically popped into my head. Any other Big Bang Theory fans out there who know what I'm talking about? I love me some Sheldon!

Anyway, for my flag I kind of went back and forth for a bit...at first I was going to choose Germany to honor my ancestry but then I decided to try Ireland because I'm also half Irish, however none of the colors were really speaking to me. We're currently having temps in the upper 70's, which is hot as heck for here, so I was thinking of cool places and snow and Antarctica popped into my head. It has a very simple flag....a white map of the continent in the center of a  blue background. Blue is my favorite color so I went with that, although the blue I used ended up more turquoise than a true blue. I used the Poppy XL stamp, some folks in my area have some blue poppies and they are GORGEOUS! I really need to get some for my garden!

The sketch is the current one over at Freshly Made Sketches. For the different layers along the top and bottom edges I used a scalloped die to create some definition.

Thanks for stopping by!

Super Moose!

It's time for mid challenge inspiration over at the Kitty Bee Designs Aloha Friday Challenge and the theme is "congratulations". Our sponsors for this challenge are KaDoodle Bug Designs and Scrap N' Dipity.

For my card I'm using a fun moose image from KaDoodle Big Designs called DS Super Hero Moose! Big surprise that I went with a moose right? Yeah, I didn't think anyone would be too shocked :) My husband and boys are all big comic book/superhero geeks so this super moose was a no brainer for me, I had to have him!

I colored the moose with my copics and then created my card around the colors of his cape. The patterned paper is from a paper stack I found at JoAnn's and it was perfect for this card! The moose is a digital stamp that was printed and the cut out with my Scan N Cut, and then I popped him up on the die cut circle for some dimension. For my sentiment I used "great job", which will still work for a congratulations card.

Head on over to the Aloha Friday Challenge to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us! Don't forget to go check out this weeks sponsors!

Wedding Thoughts for Aloha Friday

Happy Friday! It's time for mid challenge inspiration over at Aloha Friday and this week we have an Anything Goes challenge with an optional twist of "for mom". I decided not to do the optional twist.

My card features an image from one of the sponsors of this week challenge, MMedel Illustrations. The image is called Married Couple Kissing and can be found HERE. My daughters best friend is getting married at the end of June so I made this card for her to give to the bride and groom. Their wedding colors are Dusty Rose and Navy Blue so I went with those colors for the card. It's hard to see but I used white Wink of Stella on the veil to give a little extra pop to the wedding dress.

Make sure you head over to Kitty Bee Designs Aloha Friday Challenge to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us!

Sweet Congratulatons

It's time for my DT Spotlight over at the Kitty Bee Designs blog and this week I am highlighting the Emily the Elephant image. How sweet is she? I just love the little flower by her ear!

Since I would be coloring the elephant gray I knew that I wanted to use yellow for a companion color and as the card came together it morphed into a congratulations card for a new baby. Elephants are the perfect image to welcome a new little one into the world!

For my layout I used the current sketch over at The Paper Players.

You can find this image and other great ones in the Kitty Bee Designs Etsy shop HERE.

PPP Watercolor Blog Hop

This weekend I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried something I almost never do....watercolor. Pretty Pink Posh is hosting a watercolor blog hop and friends that were taking part in it encouraged me to also join in the fun.

I see so many lovely creations made with watercoloring and I'd love to achieve that look but I'm keeping it real here, this weekend has helped me discover that watercoloring is not something I'm good at LOL . It took me to 2 days to get this card done and my trash pile? You don't even want to know how many panels of watercolor paper got thrown in the trash. My friends Holly and Rita were very patient with me and listened to me whine, encouraged me and just let the creative process flow....thank goodness I have such great crafty friends!!

This card started out as a card for my husbands nephew, who graduated from high school in CA this weekend. His school colors are burgundy and gold. The red isn't as dark as I wanted but I think I'm still going to call it good and send it to him, even though it's a tad girly looking in my opinion....but maybe he won't think so!

I pulled out Faber-Castell Gelatos to use for my watercoloring. I had won them from a blog about 2 yrs ago and have never used them. Holly reminded me that I had the gelatos stashed away and that they would be good for watercoloring. Dang, I hate it when she is right ;) I used the Gold Champagne and Red Cherry Gelatos with a paintbrush and then pulled out an aquapainter to create my splatter. To finish it off I added 3 gold sequins I pulled put from the Pretty Pink Posh Classic Christmas Mix.

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure you head over to Pretty Pink Posh and check out all the wonderful projects submitted!

Paper: Cherry Cobbler (SU), Very Vanilla (SU, inside of card), 140lb Watercolor Paper

Shake Your Congrats for Friday Mashup

This week at The Friday Mashup Holly is our hostess and she wants use to create shaker cards with a congratulations theme!

I decided to use the set Celebrate today. I used the balloon die to cut a shape out of the DSP and then created my shaker portion of the card. I used 2014-16 In Color sequins for the shaker. Even though I stamped 'celebrate' this card can be used for any occasion. I think I'm actually going to use it as a congratulations card for a new baby!

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

Wedding Congratulations

I'm getting ready to head down to Colorado for one of my oldest friends weddings. We've been friends since we were 12 yrs old (and we just turned 40!) and she is getting married for the first time. Its great to see her so happy and she surprised me by asking me to officiate her wedding! Needless to say I've been running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get things done. One of the main things to get done.....a congratulations card for the couple!!

I was sitting on my craft desk, just contemplating what to do and where to start on this card. and that's when the
new challenge for Try Stampin' On Tuesday popped up in my feed. The sketch was perfect for what I wanted to do. You cant ask for better timing than that :)

Obviously because I'm in Alaska and the bridal party is in Colorado I haven't been able to get a look at the wedding colors, so I chose what I felt were the closest based on the descriptions I was given. I went with Rich Razzleberry, Baja Breeze and Whisper White.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm off to do more packing :)

Sketchy Sets for Friday Mashup

This week at The Friday Mashup Amy has a great sketch for us. It's a wonderful way to show off some of your favorite DSP, along with your image! She also wants us to create a set of cards with this sketch and well, I came close! I managed to get 2 cards done, but haven't had time to make anymore. Between work, pre-graduation activities and life in general I haven't had much crafting time this week.

I decided to go with a masculine theme and pulled out some of my favorite DSP that I've been hoarding, Well Worn. I just love these papers! I think I may cry a bit when I run out of it, lol.

I made a card that can be a general congratulations or also for a graduation, and then I made a birthday card. I really love how they came out and a friend of mine snatched them right up and bought them for her son!

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup to see all the other great inspiration from the rest of the design team!

How many other crafters have this problem? Darn Calliope just HAS to check out what I'm doing!

Bunnies....er, elephant....and sketch

It's a bit after 2:30am, I recently arrived home from work and now I'm on Blogger. You know what that means right? If you guessed its Friday Mashup time then you guessed right!

Amanda is bringing us the challenge this week and she has a great sketch for us, plus she wants us to incorporate bunnies into our project. I wasn't able to mash it up this week....I don't celebrate Easter and own zero bunny stamps so I used a very cute elephant instead, from the set Henry Says, from the spring catalog. Isn't he just adorable?

Head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see the projects from the rest of the DT!

  1. Make a project "using the Sketch".
  2. Or Make a project with "Bunnies".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project with the "Sketch featuring Bunnies".

(I'll get the supply list up later Friday, when I'm more awake!)

Yellow and Gray for Wedding Day

We're headed to a wedding this afternoon and the colors for the big day are yellow and gray, which are pretty popular right now.

It's going to be  nice, simple outdoor Alaskan wedding and so I wanted the card to be a bit elegant, yet simple at the same time. I think I ended up with a nice balance on this card. Other than the ribbon I didn't add any embellishments to the card, to keep the eye on the main image in the center of the panel.

This could also fit into 1 half of the Friday Mashup challenge, as I made a matching envelope to go with the card!

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Love & Laughter
Paper: So Saffron, Going Gray, Whisper White, Basic Gray DSP
Ink: So Saffron, Basic Gray
Accessories: Big Shot, Nestabilities Standard Circle Large and Lacey Circles, So Saffron ribbon, Cuttlebug Swiss Dots EF, sponge, dimensionals

The response to the fundraiser I've been having for my daughters soccer team has been amazing but that's means I have been trying to crank out cards like crazy! One of the cards I created today was this one. I'm really glad I've got so much retired DSP because this has been an awesome way to use the paper up!
