Moving with Friday Mashup

It's time for another Friday Mashup and this week Tara has a fun challenge for us! She wants to see a project with stripes on it, plus include a removable/movable element.

I was a bit stumped on the movable part. I was going to do a bookmark and thought, naw, get a little more out of your comfort zone. So then I thought about a slider card....naw, too much work involved LOL. After perusing the net I finally decided on a mini blinds card!

I didn't have any rectangle dies so cutting out the middle part was the toughest part. I used the Grand Madison Window die to decorate around the hole and for the image inside I stamped an image from For The Birds. I forgot to take a picture but the sentiment inside the card reads "you make me happy" from the Happy Watercolor set. Most of the mini blinds cards I found didn't open like a traditional card but I wanted to keep mine like that, with a sentiment inside.

I hope you'll come by The Friday Mashup to check out all the great projects from the rest of the DT and then play along with us, we'd love to see what you do!

Peace for Jingle Belles

I made time this weekend to play along with Jingle Belles, they have a great challenge this week! They want to see either the peace sign on your card, the word peace or just create a card that evokes peace for you (and explain why it's peaceful to you!).

I elected to go with a card that has the word peace on it. I used the set Rejoicing with You for the main image, and the sentiment is from Calm Christmas. I used the retired DSP from SU called Winter Frost, I just love the colors in this paper!

The circle is from Nestabilities and I sponged the edge with Island Indigo and then paper pierced around it, and then I popped up the angel with dimensionals. The card still seemed plain to me so I paper pierced around the edges of the card also.

Now, my layout was inspired by the current layout at The Paper Players. I know I strayed a bit but cant you see the sketch in my card, with the angel taking the place of the rectangle shape across the middle? I know I stretched it but I hope others can see the sketch!

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise stated):
Stamps: Rejoicing with You, Calm Christmas
Paper: Smoky Slate, Island Indigo, Whisper White, Winter Frost DSP
Ink: Island Indigo, Smoky Slate
Accessories: Nestabilities Circles, Paper Piercer, sponge, dimensionals

Trees and Embossing for Father's Day

This week at The Friday Mashup Sara is our hostess and has a great challenge for us. She wants to see trees on our projects, plus she also wants us to do some embossing, either heat or dry.

I decided to go with dry embossing and used the Woodgrain embossing folder. The image is the stamp from the Look Up to Father set. I hadn't inked it up since I got it a few months ago so this was the perfect time to do that.

My sketch is from Sunday Stamps, and with the strip down the middle I interjected a bit of color, but still tried to keep it masculine looking. The only thing from the sketch I didn't conform too was the placement of the sentiment.

Make sure you head over to both The Friday Mashup and Sunday Stamps to check out both challenges.

  1. Create a project with "Trees".
  2. Create a project with "Heat or Dry Embossing".
  3. Or Mash it up and create a project with "Embossing and Trees".

Winter in the City for TTS17

What a great time we had with the gals at Jingle Belles for our Christmas cross over! If you didn't play along I'm not going to lie, you missed out :) Thank you again to Lauren and Stef for teaming up with 'Tis The Season, you rock!

This week at 'Tis The Season we have an inspiration photo and this one stumped me a bit. I just ordered a Christmas set from Lawn Fawn called "Winter in the City" and it arrived Weds, just in time for me to make a card with it!

When I was a kid growing up in MA my grandparents used to take us into New York City on the train and Christmastime was always my favorite time to visit the city! The lights, the snow, the people, the stores all decorated...I tell you, if you have never been to NYC at Christmas make a trip at least once, you wont regret it! My memories of trips there are what I had in mind when I saw this photo and started putting my card together.

The photo has mainly neutral colors with just small pops of color so that's what I kept with my card. I used a Basic Black card base, and then did my main layer on Basic Gray. I stamped the snowflakes from Lawn Fawns Winter in the City in Metallic Silver, and stamped the light poles and bench in Basic Black and fussy cut it all out. The ribbons were stamped in Real Red and also fussy cut. I used Daffodil Delight to color in the lights. The bench was popped up with dimensionals, as was the banner with the sentiment.

My daughter the Glitter Queen insisted I out some glitter on the card so I put some along the top of the bench, along the snow line and on the arms of the lamp posts.

I hope you'll come by 'Tis The Season and play along with us! Come see how all the DT members interpreted this photo!

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Winter in the Park by Lawn Fawn
Paper: Basic Black, Basic Gray, Whisper White
Ink: Basic Black, Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Metallic Silver
Accessories: Dazzling Diamonds, Dimensionals

Get Well Sketch for Friday Mashup

It's a good thing that I'm in Alaska and its only 2:30am, because I totally lost track of my days and didn't realize it was Friday already, ooops! It's even my week to host the challenge over at The Friday Mashup. I need a vacation LOL

So what am I bringing to The Friday Mashup this week? A get well project and a sketch! Get well cards are always missing from my stash for some reason, so I need to get stocked up on those.

Here is what I came up with. I'll fill in the information on the card tomorrow when I'm awake and thinking clearly!

The Bride for MDS Monday

Its been a while since I played along with MDS Monday so what better time to do it than when everyone else in the house is sleeping and I'm just sitting here watching 'Jail' on TV.

Holly has a great layout for this challenge and I decided to use photos from my cousins wedding that took place in March. We're not blood cousins, but we've been best friends since we were 12 and when we found out our families had a link(her dad, who was in the Army, knew one of my dad's cousins who lived across the country) we were instantly "cousins" and have referred to each other as that all these years!

She called me about 2 months before the wedding and asked me to officiate her wedding, as I was her oldest friend and that would mean the world to her. Of course I said yes! However this also meant I couldn't get as many pictures of her and her groom as I wanted because I had my official duties to take care of, but I did get a few, mainly at the reception.

It was wonderful to be there for her special day and I hope they have a lifetime of happiness!

Stenciled Retirement for Friday Mashup

I am so glad its Friday! It's a 3 day weekend for me and boy do I need the extra day to unwind. What better way to start my vacation day than with a Friday Mashup challenge!

Heidi is our hostess this week and she would like us to use stencils on our projects, plus use a SU set that is going to be retiring soon. If you don't use SU that's ok too, just pull out a stamp you haven't used in a while!

The stencil part threw me for a bit. I went hunting through my craft stash to see if I had any and I found one with dots that I had won in a giveaway last year. I looked through Pinterest, watched some videos on YouTube and just tried to get an idea of how to use the stencil.

Since I didn't have any of the mediums that a lot of people used  I just grabbed some sponges, taped down the stencil over my paper and started inking away. I originally did it on watercolor paper but I just didn't like the way it came out so I started over on Whisper White. I used Daffodil Delight and Old Olive for the circles stenciled in the background.

The retired set I used is Friendship Preserves. I really like this set and am sad to see it retiring but I use retired sets all the time so it will still get some love!

I seemed to be sharing brain waves with a fellow DT member, Lynda, this week. Make sure you check out her card, as well as the other DT members at
The Friday Mashup!

  1. Create a project using "Stencils".
  2. Create a project with a "Retiring Stamp".
  3. Or Mash it up and create a project with " a Stencil and a Retiring Stamp".

It's a Christmas Cross Over!

It's time for another challenge at 'Tis The Season and I'm thrilled to announce that we're doing a Christmas cross over with the gals at the Jingle Belles blog! If you've been coming to my blog for a while you know that I've played along at Jingle Belles for a while now, they are a fantastic blog. Being able to work with them is just a thrill for me!

So whats the challenge?  'Tis The Season is providing a sketch and Jingle Belles wants to see BLING! Do both parts of the challenge, link up at 'Tis The Season and Jingle Belles and you are eligible to win prizes being offered at each blog! How cool is that? It really is Christmas in May :)

For my card I stayed pretty traditional. I am all about red, green and Santa at Christmas and this card definitely showcases that! I wish my bling would have shown better in the pic though...I covered parts of Santa's hat and jacket with Dazzling Details so it sparkles wonderfully in the light!

Now remember, to be eligible for prizes you have to use the sketch AND have your project blinged out! Make sure to visit both 'Tis The Season and Jingle Belles for inspiration and to link up your card! We've got Lauren from Jingle Belles showcasing her lovely card at 'Tis The Season, and myself and 'Tis The Season DT member Angel Johns are appearing at the Jingle Belles site!

Colorful Childrens Birthday for Friday Mashup

Happy Friday to you all! Our abnormally warm winter in southcentral Alaska is moving right along into an abnormally warm spring...its supposed to hit 70 today! That's my cutoff for warm temps so if it gets any higher than that I'll be hiding out in the house :)

Today's Friday Mashup is brought to us by Holly and she wants us to make a project for a child using the following colors: Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Tempting Turquoise, Wild Wasabi and neutrals.

I grabbed the set 'You're My Hero' for my card. I just bought this set recently and am so sad to see it retiring. Oh well, I'll still use it! As a former firefighter I just get the biggest kick out of these images! What better for a kids birthday card than a fun fire engine? I don't know too many kids who don't live to see the big red truck screaming down the road, siren a blaring!

My sketch inspiration came from the current Sunday Stamps challenge, it was a great sketch to use when incorporating several colors!

Come by The Friday Mashup and check out all the great projects from the rest of the design team, and play along with us!

  1. Create a project using the Colors "Turquoise, Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Wild Wasabi & Neutral of your choice".
  2. Create a project for "a Child".
  3. Or mash it up and create a project with the "Above Colors for a Child".

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: You're My Hero
Paper: Wild Wasabi, Real Red, Tempting Turquoise, Naturals White, Polka Dot Parade DSP
Ink: Real Red, Basic Black
Accessories: Big Shot, Window Labels Framelits, Paper Piercer
