Thanks For Caring

When I lost my father to cancer last October I had so many friends step up and comfort me in whatever ways I needed, and even now, 8 months after losing him, there are still so many dear friends that help me deal with the emotions I face daily of not having my dad around. I made this card with all of them in mind.

I love the clean and simple look, and the Clean and Simple blog is one of my favs. I used this weeks sketch to make the card.

Stamps: Nature Walk, sentiment from Thanks For Caring
Paper: Marina Mist, Not Quite Navy, Very Vanilla, Botanical Gazette DSP

Visions of Sugar Plums

I must be sick! I actually got the Jingle Belles challenge done on the day it came out, whoa!(even though I'm just posting it today). This week the challenge is a photo inspiration challenge and it comes from Amanda of Crafty Paper Girl, and I have to admit that once again I was a bit nervous with this challenge, as the photo is a bit soft and feminine ...the complete opposite of me, LOL!

I decided to use the purple in the photo as inspiration, as well as the snowflakes in the top right corner. The purple was hard for me because I am not a fan of that color at all, but I have plenty of friends who adore purple that I can send this card too, so its all good. For the background I used a technique called 'Magic Snowflake', and its super easy...take a piece of glossy cardstock and with white craft ink stamp your image. Cover image with white embossing power and heat emboss. Then take 2 bottles of re-inker and drop some color on a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol. The colors will combine as you pat the cotton ball across the cardstock and will completely cover your embossed images. After you're done putting the color on grab your heat gun and use it to blow the color off your image...it disappears and you're left with your image standing out against the colored background. Super easy and I just love the look thats left!.

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: The Snowflake Spot
Paper: Perfect Plum, Not Quite Navy, Glossy White, Whisper White
Ink: Whisper White Craft Ink, Perfect Plum, Vintage Violet, Cool Caribbean
Accessories: White Embossing Power, Rubbing Alcohol, Button, Rhinestone Brad, Elegant Eggplant Ribbon, dimensionals

Ribbons, Pearls, and Girls.....

I love Fridays! Not just because its the end of the work week and I have the weekend to relax, but because its time for another Friday Mashup challenge! This week our challenge is brought to us by Holly, and the Mashup Rock Star  chosen this week wins an OPI Pirates of the Caribbean mini set. will get the Mini Set of OPI's Femme De Cirque Collection.

So get crafty and either make a feminine card, make a card using ribbon or pearls OR MASHUP the challenges and create a feminine card using ribbons and pearls! A random winner will win the Pirates of the Caribbean OPI set.

I am sooooo not a girly girl so this challenge was a toughie for me! I'm more of a jeans and hoodie type of girl, rather than ribbon and pearls! I know Holly wanted to see some pink incorporated but I used some Rose Red cardstock...close enough right? I love flowers, and I figure *most* girls do, so I incorporated some nice flowery DSP that wasnt too overwhelming, and added the pearls as accents to some of the flowers.

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Baby Blossoms
Paper: Crumb Cake, Rose Red, Very Vanilla, Springtime Vintage
Ink: Crumb Cake, Always Artichoke
Accessories: Very Vanilla ribbon, pearls, CB Swiss Dots folder, sponge

Mashing Up Masculine

Its time for another Friday Mashup challenge and this week Kasey is bringing us the challenge! Here is what Kasey has to say:

Hi it's Kasey here, a big Hello from sunny North Queensland, and another first for me, I get to set the Challenge this week. I'm so excited to be bringing you one of my all time favourites. Just in case you haven't come across the term before...A Monochromatic scheme uses shades of the same colour or ONE colour plus a neutral. I for one don't make enough masculine cards, I prefer working with all the girly colours and bling, so in the theme Australia! and welcome to another Friday Mashup Challenge. I'm so pleased to be a full time member of the Friday Mashup Design Team of setting challenges... to Mash it up, make it Masculine.

1. Make a card with a Monochromatic colour scheme

2. Make a card with with a Masculine theme

3. MASH it all up and create a Monochromatic card that is for a Male!

I wasnt sure how I was going to handle this challenge. I knew I wanted to use a new set from the SU Summer Mini called The Open Sea...I fell in love with it the minute I saw it! I grabbed the Nautical Expedition DSP and just started from there. I mashed the challenge and used Not Quite Navy paired with some Whisper White and the DSP to create a Fathers Day card for my FIL. The ship was cut out and popped up with dimensionals.

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: The Open Sea, sentiment from King of the Grill, inside sentiment from All-Year Cheer I
Paper: Not Quite Navy, Whisper White, Nautical Expedition DSP
Ink: Not Quite Navy
Accessories: Not Quite Navy brads, sponge, dimensionals

Strength and Hope

I finally got a chance today to ink up one of the new sets I got recently, Strength and Hope! I love love love this set. Like many others my life has been touched by cancer, especially in the last few yrs. My stepmom is a breast cancer survivor(she recently hit her 5 yr clear mark, woohooo!), 3 yrs ago my best friend since I was 15 lost her mom to breast cancer(passing away only 3 months after she was diagnosed), and I lost my beloved father to squamous cell cancer on Oct.2,2010.

I've seen the Strength and Hope of cancer survivors and their loved ones up close and personal and this set just really speaks to me. Plus any money that goes towards breast cancer research is a wonderful thing! So I got inking today and made a card that incorporated 2 challenges, this weeks colors from The Color Throwdown, and this weeks sketch from Clean and Simple.

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Strength and Hope
Paper: So Saffron, Rose Red, Whisper White, Springtime Vintage DSP
Ink: Rose Red, Taken With Teal
Accessories: Round Corner Punch, Rose Red Brads, Whisper White Ribbon, CB Swiss Dots folder, sponge, dimensionals

SOS

No, its not a call for help, although I guess it might be appropriate when you see the pictures in this post, hahaha! Thanks to my friend Lisa over at Papergrace Designs I learned about a new blog on the block, Shopping Our Stash...its going to be all about using what you already have, instead of constantly buying more. I know my hubby will appreciate that :P

Anyway, to kick things off the design team is sharing pics of their work spaces and they're asking everyone else to play along and share too. I figured what the hell, my spot isnt going to win any neatness awards but its mine! If I had my way I'd build a cabin in the backyard for my stamping space...it would have a wood stove, and lots of windows so I could watch the snow fall as I stamped, and the moose could come say hi to me...oh man, I digress!

On the left I keep all my general stamps....birthday, nature, sentiments, etc. On the right is all Christmas, Halloween and fall stamps, although 99% of the sets you see on the right are Christmas, because I adore Christmas stamps.
Hubby made the ribbon rack for me...I've got tons of crap, I mean goodies, stashed in the 6 bins that go under the desk and shelves and the post-its on my puffin poster remind me of all the great blog challenges I need to accomplish!

Going Vintage

Well, I attempted to anyway. This weeks challenge over at the Jingle Belles blog is to go vintage, connect with Christmas Past. I grew up in MA and when I think of vintage I get images of Norman Rockwell. I LOVE his winter and Christmas images. However, I couldnt quite bring that sort of thing to life so this is what I came up with, a CAS card, lol.

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Winter Post, sentiment from Bells and Boughs
Paper: Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler, Deck the Halls DSP
Ink: Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler(inside sentiment, not shown)
Accessories: Always Artichoke brads, Early Espresso ribbon, sponge, Scallop Border Punch, dimensionals

MU#5 May 6 Embossing (Dry or Heat) Nature Theme

Lisa here! Guess what? Yep, thats right! Its Friday and time for another Friday Mashup challenge! I am SO excited to bring this weeks challenge to you all. I live in Alaska and everyday I marvel at the extreme nature that surrounds me. I can be found outdoors all year round, just enjoying every thing Mother Nature has for us here. So this week I want all of you to make nature inspired cards OR just make us a card with some form of embossing on it, as I'm a big fan of embossing also. So here we go:

1. Make a card inspired by nature

2. Make a card with embossing on it somewhere

3. MASH it all up and create a nature card that uses embossing somewhere on it!

Here is the card I came up with it. Its TOTALLY me...the trees, the colors and of course, my favorite, moose! As you can see I MASHed it up and did both nature and embossing, dry and heat. The card base is embossed with the CB folder Distressed Stripes, and then I used a copper color to heat emboss the moose.

Now head over to The Friday Mashup blog and link up your card, and dont forget to go visit the other design team members and leave some love for them. Also, leave some love for the other folks who join in on the challenge!
