Catching Snow

Jingle Belles current challenge is to use Santa on our projects. I immediately thought of this fun set from Avery Elle called Oh What Fun, with Santa looking towards the sky to catch snowflakes. I actually started this card last week but life has gotten in the way and I wasn't able to finish my set of 5 until tonight!

I had this paper in my stash and I liked the presents for the bottom half, because that's what Santa does, bring presents, and then the top portion was the reverse side and it was perfect as snow falling from the night sky.

Layers for Jingle Belles

Monday is here but I feel like I could use another weekend to recover from this past weekend! We took the new car for a drive to Anchorage and we bought a new living room set. Between crafts, a new car and furniture I think I've spent enough for the rest of the year. I'm avoiding shopping for a while LOL

The new addition to the family aka the girl my husband now loves best LOL

One thing I won't avoid is the Jingle Belles blog! The current challenge is all about layers....they want us to create a project with at least 3 layers. Mine are subtle but I hope it counts.....my first layer is the card base, the 2nd layer is the decorative DSP, the Santa is a 3rd layer and the 4th layer is the banner with the sentiment. I know the 3rd and 4th items are small so hopefully they still count!

There is still time to play along so head over to the Jingle Belles blog and check it out!

Dashing with a Christmas Tree

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend...mine involved some rockin' and rollin'.....we had an earthquake of 7.1. Our house shook pretty violently but thankfully other than a few things knocked off shelves we were spared any damage. 4 homes were lost 4 hours south of us though due to a gas explosion caused by the quake so please keep those folks in your thoughts.

Today I wanted to hurry up and get a card made for the Jingle Belles challenge that will be ending on Weds. They want to see Christmas trees on our projects. No problem, I love Christmas trees, they are one of the best things about Christmas!

I have a lot of fond memories of going to get our Christmas tree as a kid so when I saw this Avery Elle stamp I had to get it. It reminds me of my dad securing our tree to the car and heading home. When I was in high school my parents had a van and one year my dad put the tree in the back of the van and had to leave the back doors open as we headed home. Well, Daddy forgot that he had his bowling balls towards the back and when we had to come to a stop along the way 2 bowling balls, in their bags, fell out of the van! I yelled at my dad to pull over and he ran and grabbed them. Thankfully traffic wasn't too bad and he got them safely and we made it the rest of the way home with no more issues. My dad passed from cancer in Oct.2010 and I sure do miss talking to him about Christmas escapades.....

Make sure you head on over to the Jingle Belles blog and check out the challenge before it ends!

Winter Ride for Friday Mashup

It's my turn to host at The Friday Mashup and this week I'd like to see winter projects using these colors: Mint, Pool, White and Slate. Winter is in full swing here in Alaska and I just love the soft colors of a snow covered landscape!

I had had this image of the sledding bear and rabbit left from the 30 day color challenge and so I grabbed it to make my card. The DSP behind the frame is Pool Party and I used Mint Macaron to stamp the sentiment across the card. The card base is Smoky Slate. The neutrals (and the pop of red) that were used to color in my image worked perfectly for the challenge! To finish it off I added a few sequins and voila, nice and easy card!

Make sure you head over to the Friday Mashup blog to check out all the great projects from the DT and then play along with us, I'd love to see your winter projects!

  • Create a project using the colors Mint, Pool, White and Slate

Let's go Ice Skating for TTS

This week at TTS we have a photo inspiration and I pulled a few elements from it to create my card.

Since there are ice skates hanging on a pole I decided to use the ice skating moose I recently got from Avery Elle, part of the the Snow Much Fun set. I colored the moose in with copics and to bring in the touch of red and green in the photo I colored the mooses sweater, skates and hat with those colors. I created snowbanks and an iced over river using Lawn Fawn dies and since there is white and gray in the inspiration photo those are the main colors I used on my card, with just a touch of color with the DSP I used to create my river.

I stamped the sentiment in gray along the curve of the top border and called the card good!

Head over to 'Tis The Season to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

Moosing Around for Jingle Belles and World Cardmaking Day

Today is World Cardmaking Day and I manged to get a card done, woohooo! I've got a sick kitty that was just diagnosed as diabetic so we spent part of today at the vet getting meds and learning how to inject his insulin. Seems pretty easy and we're just thankful this is something to be treated!

Anyway, back to my card.....I colored this moose from Avery Elle stamps in the other day for the Daily Marker 30 Day coloring challenge and used him to put this card together. The layout is from a previous Paper Players challenge.

The current challenge at the Jingle Belles blog is to create cards for our friends and family that don't necessarily celebrate Christmas, so I went with a general winter theme.

I used my white gel pen to add dots to the moose's sweater and laces to his skates. Want to see a really cool video of 2 bull moose in rut fighting? Go HERE. This was taken in Anchorage on Friday!

Make sure you head over to the Jingle Belles blog, there is still time to play with their challenge!

Penguin love for TTS52

This week at 'Tis The Season we have a fun new sketch to play with. I recently got some new goodies from Avery Elle so I used those to create my card!

I love penguins and believe it or not, a lot of folks think we have penguins here in Alaska. Sorry, we don't, they are found at the other pole ;) I do have a craft room of penguin stuff though and these stamps from Avery Elle were just too adorable to pass up. They also come with matching dies which makes things even easier!

I stamped and colored my little family and then I adhered the 3 bigger penguins to the panel, then I popped up the 2 smaller guys in the front. Instead of a bow I just placed ribbon across the front and then turned the scallop border in the other direction. Nice and easy!

Head over to the 'Tis The Season blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us! Christmas is quickly approaching :)
