Love and Liberty

My creative time has continued into the evening hours since my husband and 17 year old son are camped out in the living room with The Force Awakens playing and the surround sound blaring. We all saw the movie when it was in the theater (my son actually saw it 4 times when it was in theaters!) so I'm good on watching it for a while ;)

The current Freshly Made Sketches challenge ends Monday at noon PST so I wanted to play along with it before it closed. I grabbed an older set from SU called The Free and the Brave. My husband spent 20 yrs in the Navy and right now we have a lot of friends either retiring from the service or changing duty stations so I've got military on the mind, and with 4th of July a week away thoughts of freedom are also swimming through my head. I love the sentiment in this set, it can work for many different occasions.

I cut the white background out with the Lawn Fawn Snowy Backdrop, I love the stars in it, and then I trimmed the piece with a die from an MFT Blueprints set. The sentiment circle was diecut with MFT Zig Zag stitch circles and then popped up for dimension. I used retired SU DSP for the back circle and the strip across the middle.

Thanks for stopping by!

Naughty and Nice

I haven't played  along with many challenges this summer so today I cleared my calendar and stamped all day. I need to make 50 Christmas cards for an order I got so I decided to play along with SugarPea Designs Mix It up Challenge. I only used the sketch portion of the challenge.

I used the SPD set Merry Makers and  colored in the elf with Copics. The "naughty or nice" sentiment is from the Santa's Gift Tag set. I really liked this retired DSP from SU and didn't want to splice it like the sketch so I ended up using some silver stretch cord to create 2 different sections. The DSP had the varying designs on the same side of paper so I cut it to give me 2 of each design. Both of the circles are popped up for dimension.

Thanks for stopping by!

Adventure for Sunday Stamps

Happy Sunday! I'm back with a card for the new challenge up at Sunday Stamps,a fun color challenge . I'm sorry I haven't been a consistent team member this summer, life just finds a way of getting too busy at times. I promise to do better!

Here in Alaska Denali National Park holds a road lottery for people to drive the entire length of the park road in Sept. During tourist season (early May- mid Sept) private cars can only drive to mile 15, after that you have to be on one of the park buses, hike in or ride a bike. Weather permitting in the off season private cars can drive to mile 30. The road lottery period is the only time that one can drive all the way in to mile 92 and it is an AWESOME drive! The scenery and wildlife makes it all completely worth it and we found out this week that we won a pass for the lottery and get to drive in on Sept.18th! We went a few years ago because a friend gave us her pass but this is our first time winning and I feel like it's Christmas in June :)

Moose and bear are some of the most active residents of the park so I've had that on my brain the last few days. What better set to pull out than the Warm and Fuzzy Friends set from MFT. This moose and bear are just too cute, I love them! The lake across the street from my house has rainbow trout in it and my family fishes there all the time so that's what I decided to color the fish as.

I'm a big fan of earth tone colors so my eyes immediately went to the brown and greens in our challenge photo. I used the green in my DSP and the coloring of the fish, and the brown in coloring the animals and a strip of woodgrain DSP. My card base is a retired SU color called Bordering Blue, for me it was the closest color I had to match the one on the end in the graphic.

My layout came from the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge. The moose, bear and sign took the spot of the circle on my card :)

Make sure you head over to the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us, we'd love to see what you do with these colors!

A June Snowman

Hello there! It's been a bit since I posted but I finally made time to sit down today and get some creative work done. I played along with 2 of my favorite challenges, Freshly Made Sketches and Jingle Belles!

Jingle Belles wants to see snowmen on our cards, and FMS has a nice simple sketch with a few layers that seem scary but really aren't! I used some retired Christmas DSP from SU for my panels, with a fun snowman from MFT as my focal point. I adore snowman and cannot wait for winter (and Christmas!). I kept the card pretty simple, as I didn't want to try and compete with the bold Christmas papers. The snowman and sentiment are both popped up with dimensionals.

As we go through the day learning about the tragedy in Orlando please cherish every moment you have, whether it's spent crafting, hanging out with your family or doing anything else that you love. You never know when you might not get another day.
