Precious and Few

Since it's now summer break for the school district I have to transition over from nights to days and the older I get the harder it is! I start on days tomorrow and I've spent most of the weekend in my jammas because trying to get up early when I'm  used to going to bed at 4am is kicking my booty. Therefore this card took me a few days to get done because my attention span was just not happening!

Over at the Power Poppy blog they have a new feature called Hues to Use and this week the colors are really bright ones...orange, yellow and turquoise. They also had the Gerbera Daisies Clear and Digi stamp sets on sale this weekend so I bought the digi version and thought it would be perfect for using for the Hues challenge!

I decided to color 2 of the daisies yellow and have the middle one pop out with the orange. To bring in the turquoise I colored part of the sentiment and then used turquoise DSP. These images are so fabulous on their own that I don't like to add a lot of distracting elements, that's really not my style to begin with anyway, so I just added a few Sprinkles from Doodlebug to complete the card. I also didn't like the stark white edge of the image panel against the DSP so I sponged it with the yellow and orange to bring more color in. I know a lot of people think sponging is old school and out dated but it's one of my favorite ways to liven up edges.

Birthday Boy for LMMS

It's Inspiration Week over at LMMS and this week I'm featuring the image Polka Dot Pals Tenn. I love making boy/masculine cards and this image reminds me a lot of the type of wardrobe you'll find on most guys of all ages here in Alaska........t-shirts and Carhartts and boots!

I have a stack of paper I picked up from JoAnn's called The Boyhood Stack from DCWV and when I saw this particular print I knew it would be perfect for this card and the colors on my young fellow. The layout is from last weeks Freshly Made Sketches.

Make sure and head on over to the LMMS blog to see what the rest of the DT created and don't forget to join in at our Anything Goes challenge!

Bat Owl

It's time for my DT Spotlight over at Kitty Bee Designs and today I am showcasing a fun image called I Am Bat Owl. My husband and all 3 boys are big superhero/comic book geeks so as soon as I saw this image I had to have it! How cute is this owl with his bat wings?

I colored the image with copics and then used the Gorgeous Grunge set from SU to create my background. I'm not going to lie...I originally had done the background with red and brown splatters and it looked like an owl had been murdered LOL That's when I switched to the orange and I liked the results much better :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Blue Christmas

I've missed several of the last challenges over at Jingle Belles so this weekend I set aside time to play along with my favorite Christmas challenge. Their current challenge is to create a Christmas card that predominantly features the color blue. While I'm normally very traditional when it comes to Christmas colors I love the color blue so I was ready to dive right into this challenge!

I also played along with the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches again. I love this sketch, it's very versatile and I know I'm going to be using it a lot!

I had the patterned paper in my stash, it's from Carta Bella and the portion I used for the bottom has just a touch of red and brown, so the blue is still the main color of the card. The white polka dots made me think of snow so for my circle behind the tree I embossed it with a snowy embossing folder that is from SU. The tree is popped up with dimensionals. I made a set of 5 because I liked this design so much!

Thanks for stopping by!

Seeds of Today

It's time for a brand new challenge over at Sunday Stamps and this week we have a color challenge. Aren't these colors pretty? I just adore them, but then again blue and yellow are 2 of my favorite colors so that's really not a surprise :)

I started with the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches to get my inspiration going. I'm just one of those people who does better when they have a sketch to jump start them! The image I used is a digital stamp from Power Poppy called Seeds of Today. I think it's so pretty! I resized it using Word and made sure it would fit in the circle die I was using. You can see my circle is basically in the middle of the card, while in the sketch it's off to the left more, but every other element for the sketch is the same. I had some paper in my stash from S.E.I. that was in a kit I got years ago and it works perfectly for the colors in the challenge, although the blue is a little more vibrant than what I wanted, but this is the closest I could get.I'm really happy with the summer floral vibe the card has!

Make sure you head on over to the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us, we'd love to see what you create with these colors! Don't forget, you have to use at least 3 colors from the graphic and you can also use a neutral of your choice.

ASL Thanks for LMMS

Little Miss Muffet Stamps has new images being released today and I am SO excited to showcase  one of them today. As the mom of a deaf son I love that LMMS has images that show ASL signs and today's new image is a MALE image doing the ASL sign for "thank you" (hand at the mouth moving out and away from the face). How cool is that?

The image is called Polka Dot Pals Ian and can be found HERE. I especially love the shark shirt because my boys, both deaf and hearing, love sharks, so this image gets a double like from my crew :) To find any of the images that use ASL signs just go to the LMMS webpage, type ASL in the search bar and boom! all the images will show for you, it's super easy!

I did my usual and stuck with more earthy colors for this card, with browns and blues this time. I just love the background paper, it's from a paper stack I got on sale at JoAnn's!

Make sure you head on over to the LMMS Challenge Blog to see what the rest of the team created and then play along with us in our Anything Goes Challenge!

Framed Fathers Day

I played along with the current Power Poppy challenge again, which was to incorporate a frame on your project. For this card I used the Leaping Trout image, it's one of my favorite ones! Hubby was out on the lake about 2 weeks ago as soon as the ice went out but the trout were elusive and he came home empty handed. I'm hoping he has better luck this weekend!

To create the frame I took 2 oval dies, set one inside the other and then ran it through the Cuttlebug. Nice and easy way to get a quick frame! I also used the silver gelly roll pen again to create the iridescent look along the side of the fish.

A Lovely Day

My trip to Denali was awesome, my son's high school graduation was perfect and now that my vacation is winding down and it's back to the grind on Monday I have some time to create.

For this card I played along with the Power Poppy challenge, which was to use a frame on your project, and the mood board that was posted Friday in their Good Vibe 5. The yellow and green colors in the mood board are so me and that's what I pulled from it.

I printed out the image Cuppa Buttercups and I changed the sentiment color from black to green. I colored the image with copics and then began to build my card. The card base is SU Whisper White Thick CS, the yellow frame is cut from some retired SU DSP and since I wanted the image panel to pop I mounted the yellow frame on a piece of SU Lucky Limeade that was embossed with a square lattice pattern. It's a very springy...is that a word? LOL.....card, which is perfect for my neck of the woods, as the leaves on our trees just popped and we are surrounded by green again. The wild roses should be flowering in a few weeks!

Thanks for stopping by!

Wedding Thoughts for Aloha Friday

Happy Friday! It's time for mid challenge inspiration over at Aloha Friday and this week we have an Anything Goes challenge with an optional twist of "for mom". I decided not to do the optional twist.

My card features an image from one of the sponsors of this week challenge, MMedel Illustrations. The image is called Married Couple Kissing and can be found HERE. My daughters best friend is getting married at the end of June so I made this card for her to give to the bride and groom. Their wedding colors are Dusty Rose and Navy Blue so I went with those colors for the card. It's hard to see but I used white Wink of Stella on the veil to give a little extra pop to the wedding dress.

Make sure you head over to Kitty Bee Designs Aloha Friday Challenge to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us!

Tough Girl for LMMS

Sorry about the late post today. Last night at the school board meeting they had the big vote and my job is safe! After months of this hanging over my head it was a relief to finally get this closure and when I got home last night I was too emotionally exhausted to do anything.

Today starts a new Anything Goes Challenge over at the LMMS blog and my card features a new rubber stamp image called Polka Dot Pals Jennifer, and she was inspired by Jennifer Dove! If you aren't familiar with Jennifer Dove and her amazing Copic skills then you definitely need to check her out!

I used one of my favorite color combos, Coastal Cabana, Real Red and Crumb Cake. There is just something about these colors together that make me smile! The sentiment is from a Pretty Cute Stamps set.

Make sure you head on over to the LMMS blog to see what the rest of the team created and then play along with us, we'd love to see what you create!
