Penguin love for TTS52

This week at 'Tis The Season we have a fun new sketch to play with. I recently got some new goodies from Avery Elle so I used those to create my card!

I love penguins and believe it or not, a lot of folks think we have penguins here in Alaska. Sorry, we don't, they are found at the other pole ;) I do have a craft room of penguin stuff though and these stamps from Avery Elle were just too adorable to pass up. They also come with matching dies which makes things even easier!

I stamped and colored my little family and then I adhered the 3 bigger penguins to the panel, then I popped up the 2 smaller guys in the front. Instead of a bow I just placed ribbon across the front and then turned the scallop border in the other direction. Nice and easy!

Head over to the 'Tis The Season blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us! Christmas is quickly approaching :)

Wonderland Banner

After watching some football I decided to get crafty and play along with the sketch at Freshly Made, which ends tomorrow. I had the idea for this card as soon as I saw the sketch and really like how it came out. The popped up banner gives a nice separation from the row of trees stamped on the card base. I embossed the card base with the Softly Falling TIEF and then used a white gel pen to accentuate and add falling snow. My area is supposed to see the first snow of the season on Tues and I am SO excited! If it doesn't pan out for some reason I will be super sad. I am all about the snow!

Pumpkin Frames for Friday Mashup

It's my turn to host at The Friday Mashup and this week I'm all about fall and pumpkins! We all know I'm a winter girl but I do love fall, as fleeting as the season is here in Alaska. Our leaves have already changed and are quickly falling off the trees, it wont be long before the branches are all bare.

My family loves Halloween and every year we buy a bunch of pumpkins to carve and line our front porch with. This is where the inspiration came from for the pumpkin part of the challenge! I don't like to eat anything made with pumpkin or pumpkin flavor but I do love pumpkin decorations!

I used one of the sentiments from the Thankful Forest Friends set and then used some retired framelits to create my frame. I created 2 pumpkins from punches and added those to the bottom of the frame. I paper pierced the frame as well as all the corners of the card.

Head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then I hope you'll play along with us!

Here's your Mashup Challenge:

Many Thanks for Sunday Stamps

This week at Sunday Stamps we have a fun sketch challenge for you to try out.

I used a brand new set from Lawn Fawn called Happy Harvest. It has so many great fall images in it, I just love it! For this card I used the wagon carrying 3 pumpkins and then using the masking technique I added 3 more pumpkins with a bird sitting on top of the last one. The image was colored with copics and popped up with dimensionals on a  card base that I created with Neenah Solar White paper and paper from the Lawn Fawn Sweater Weather pack. The sequins are from Pretty Pink Posh.

Head over to the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

Winter in the Park

Don't you hate it when you have to sit at home all day and wait for a technician? I work nights and had to get up early today in order to wait for a DirecTv technician to come by. Of course they just called and said they won't make it today, it will be tomorrow morning. Oh, joy. Good thing my husband will be home to deal with them.

The time around the house did allow me to create. I used the sketch from FMS to create this card. I love the Winter in the Park set from Lawn Fawn and was so excited when they released dies to match it in their latest release! I also used 2 other new products...the Santa hat is from Toboggan Together and the die cut background is the Snowy Backdrop. I accidentally got a bit of blue ink along one of the edges so I just fixed that by sponging lightly all around the white card base. The bench and hat are both popped up with dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope your Friday was better than mine!

Inlaid Christmas for Friday Mashup

This week at The Friday Mashup we have a sketch for you, plus we also have the option of doing the Inlaid Die Cutting technique. If you are not familiar with this technique you can check out a video HERE.

I decided to make a Christmas card...shocker, I know. I used the new set from SU called Peaceful Pines and it also has matching framelits. On a piece of Whisper White I stamped the three trees and then used the framelits to cut them out. I took a piece of DSP and lined the dies up to cut out the tree shapes where I wanted them and then I placed the stamped trees into the shapes I just cut. This is all adhered to a card base of thick Whisper White card stock.

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT did and then play along with us!

  • Create a project with the Sketch.
  • Create a project with Inlaid Die Cutting.
  • or Mash it Up! and create a project with the Sketch and inlaid die cutting.

A Cool Christmas for TTS

This week at 'Tis The Season we have a color challenge using colors that I think of as cool (as in cold) winter colors....Marina, Sky and Slate. These are SU colors but you can use any brand you want as long as it is similar to these.

I pulled out a new set from SU called Christmas Cuties. The boys snowsuit and scarf are all paper pieced with various Christmas DSP using Smoky Slate and Soft Sky colors and then I used markers to color the boots, gloves, hair and face. I embossed the panel he is on with the Softly Falling TIEF and then popped the image up with dimensionals. I did some light sponging with Soft Sky around the embossed panel. To get the fluff on top of his hat I used white Liquid Applique.

You're also getting a sneak peek at the sketch challenge that is coming up on Sunday Stamps this weekend! The card base is thick Whisper White and I used retired Polka Dot Parade DSP in Marina Mist for the bottom portion. The snowflakes on the white card base and the sentiment are also stamped in Marina Mist.

Head on over to 'Tis The Season to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

3D Sparkle for Friday Mashup

This week at The Friday Mashup Holly is our hostess and she has a fun challenge for us, one that pushed me out of my comfort zone a bit. She would like us to make a 3D item plus use glitter.

For my 3D item I decided to do a flat backed treat box, directions can be found HERE. I made both boxes out of Crumb Cake cardstock and then decorated them with various papers and stamps for each holiday. The glitter on the Christmas box comes in the form of Silver Glimmer Paper and on the Halloween box I used some retired Black Chunky Glitter around the edges. Hershey Kisses fit in these boxes perfectly and would make a great teacher gift during the holidays!

I also have to give my husband credit because when I showed him the boxes he said I should put 3 pumpkins on the front of the Halloween one. I said yeah, we'll see and went back to my craft area. I put 3 pumpkins on and sure enough, it looked good. I went out there and told him "you better write this down on the calendar because you may never hear it again....you were right". ROFL

Head over to the Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

Here's your Mashup Challenge:

Silent Night

I sat down this afternoon to play along with a certain sketch challenge blog and when I actually started working on my card I went way off from the sketch and came up with this card instead. Sometimes things just come together like that :)

One of my favorite things to do in the winter is sit outside in the yard when it's snowing and just watch the snow blanket the trees. There is such a peace and beauty about it that really speaks to my soul, and that is what inspired this card.

Great Dad for Sunday Stamps

This week at Sunday Stamps it's a color challenge and I went with a neutral card for dad that could be used for a birthday or Father's Day.

The colors are based on the SU colors Vanilla, Island Indigo, Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight. You can use any brand however, as long as your colors are close!

For a starting point I used a recent sketch from Paper Players and made my superhero dad from SugarPea Designs the focal point. The circle behind him is embossed with the Houndstooth TIEF and the smaller circle is Crushed Curry with some sponging done around the edges. The banner was cut from some retired Pumpkin Pie DSP.

Head on over to the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

Alpaca my Scarf

Have you seen the new release from Lawn Fawn? They have some of THE cutest sets and one of my favorites is Winter Alpaca. As soon as I saw the sentiment in the set I laughed, such a great play on words and honestly, an alpaca for winter or Christmas? Awesome! Even my husband got a kick out of it and he is hard to please when it comes to stamp sets!

This card was made for 2 challenges....the tic-tac-toe challenge at Jingle Belles and the sketch for Freshly Made Sketches. For the tic-tac-toe I did a diagonal row....stamping, die cuts and glitter. Its hard to see in the picture but all the small stars and circles surrounding the alpaca have Wink of Stella on them.

I won the Snowy Backdrop die during one of Lawn Fawn's inspiration weeks and I had fun trying it out for the first time. Look at the fabulous background it creates! You can do like I did and save the cut out pieces to use them for something else, here I used them to fill in the space around the alpaca on the patterned paper. They would also be great to use on a shaker card! The sentiment banner and alpaca are both popped up with dimensionals and the scarf on the alpaca is paper pieced.

Make sure to check out both challenge blogs, there is still time to play along!

Thanks for stopping by!

Let's Go Fishing for Friday Mashup

This week at the Friday Mashup Cynthia has a color challenge for us, plus she'd also like us to create a card with a hunting or fishing theme. Perfect for an Alaska girl! My family doesn't hunt but we love to fish and just got back from a fun trip to Valdez Alaska, where my husband and boys caught enough silver salmon to feed me through the winter! (I'm the only one in the house who enjoys salmon, the others don't know what they're missing!)

The colors to use are Marina, Espresso and Wasabi. These are SU colors but you can use any brand you want as long as the colors are close. I used one of my favorite stamp sets from SugarPea Designs called Great Catch and created a little scene of him standing along a river bank with rolling hills behind him. I added some clouds in the top portion to distinguish it as the sky. I don't know if I really needed too but what the heck, I did it anyway LOL

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

Here's your Mashup Challenge:
  • Create a project with shades of Marina, Wasabi & Espresso.
  • Create a project with a Hunting or Fishing theme.
  • or Mash it Up! and create a Hunting or Fishing project with the colors above.

Who wants some salmon? These spawning salmon are in various stages....some dead, some close to death, and some in there are ready to be caught and end up as someones dinner:

My husband with his 10.9 lb silver salmon:

My 16 y/o son and his nice silver:

It took my nephew some time but he finally had a silver stay on the line! All of these fish are now in my freezer :) :

A Christmas Glow for TTS

It's time for a new challenge at 'Tis The Season and  it's a beautiful inspiration photo. I just love the glow of the Christmas lights and that's what I drew my inspiration from.

Here in my neck of the woods we have a lot of black spruce trees. I really love them when they're covered in snow and I always imagine hanging Christmas lights and ornaments on them. I decided to do it on paper instead, using various SU makers to create lights on the trees. I kept it simple by stamping a row of trees across the card with some slight watercoloring done along the bottom to give the ground a little more definition. After using markers to add the lights I stamped the sentimen in Real Red across the bottom of the card. I really love how simple and beautiful this one layer card came out!

Head over to the TTS blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

A Christmas Scene for Jingle Belles

For their current challenge Jingle Belles has a Tic-Tac-Toe challenge. I love those, and when they're Christmas? Even better! I just got some new stamps from Lawn Fawn so this was the perfect way to break in the stamps and play along at Jingle Belles!

I used the set Toboggan Together to create my little scene. I have a little reindeer sitting in the snow, watching his little buddy Mr. Penguin pull a sled of snowballs along. I used the row " Bling/ Die Cuts /Snow".  Unfortunately this morning I couldn't get a good photo that shows it but for "Bling" I used Wink of Stella on all the snowballs and along the paper pierced edges of the snowbanks. I also used red Wink of Stella on the sled for even more bling. In person it sparkles very nicely! My "Die Cuts" are the reindeer, penguin, snowballs, sled and rope for the sled. For "Snow" I used new paper from Lawn Fawn Let's Bokeh in the Snow Collection. I also made my own snowbanks with some Neenah Solar White and paper pierced the edges.

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to check out the Jingle Belles blog, there is still time to play along!
