Watercolor Poppies for Friday Mashup

It's finally the end of the week! I don't know about you but that makes me so happy for many reasons. However, I am not excited about the weather forecast for my neck of the woods...we're supposed to see temps in the low 80's this weekend. Um, no thank you! I live in southcentral Alaska for a reason, and it's not to melt in the heat LOL I just may hide in the house and stamp all weekend if the temps do pan out like the forecasters say they will.

This week at The Friday Mashup Holly is our hostess and she has a nice simple sketch for us plus she'd like to see watercoloring on our project. I used the Pleasant Poppies stamp, this is always one of my favorite images to watercolor. I used my Aquapainters and Real Red and Old Olive ink to color in the flowers. I decided to give the card a bit of a softer look by rounding the top corners and then I stamped the sentiment on a strip of watercolor paper, watercolored over it with Old Olive and then cut it into a banner and popped it up over the poppies. It's hard to see in the photos but I used a red Wink of Stella pen along the lines of the flowers for a little extra pop.

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

  • Create a project with the "sketch"
  • Create a project using "Watercoloring"
  • Or Mash it Up and create a watercolor project that uses the sketch

Shepherd's Boy For 'Tis The Season

It's time for a new challenge at 'Tis The Season and this week we have a sketch. There are so many ways to interpret this....you can make DSP your focal point, you can make an image in the corner the center of attention, whatever you want! I decided to use an image in the corner and have that be the main focus of my card and this sweet Shepherd Boy from SugarPea Designs was a perfect choice.

I colored the image in with Copics on a piece of Neenah Solar White. I then adhered the image panel to a panel of Wintergreen DSP and then below that added a panel of Early Espresso. My card base is Baked Brown Sugar with some Wintergreen DSP affixed to it.

The card wasn't looking finished to me so I grabbed some sequins from Pretty Pink Posh and added those and that did the trick, nice and simple and not overwhelming.

Make sure to head over to the 'Tis The Season blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us! We're also having a DT call so if you like to make Christmas cards year round then submit a NEW card for this challenge and put DT after your name. Easy peasy!

Whole Lot of Wonderful for Paper Players

The Paper Players has a great sketch this week and I had time to play along....I love it when things work out like that!

I pulled out the Vivid Vases stamp and colored it with Copics. I then created a card base from Sahara Sand and used some old retired DSP called Delicate Dots. I've got a lot of old DSP that I've been hoarding and I've made a pledge to use a bunch of it this summer! I used the Owl Builder Punch to cut the circles out of the DSP to mimic the circles in the sketch. I popped up the image panel with dimensionals and then to finish it all off I did some paper piercing around the edges of the card.

Thanks for stopping by!

Memorial Day

It is Memorial Day in the United States. Today we honor and pay tribute to all the brave men and women who have laid down their lives for our country. It is not about sales, or who has the biggest BBQ...it is about remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice, the reason why we are free to have sales and BBQ's and children running free.

Every year my family and I attend the Memorial Day ceremony at the Alaska Veterans Memorial to honor the heroes of our country. We will never forget.

You're Awesome for Sunday Stamps

*I have been gone most of the weekend and that I had scheduled this post, but apparently I forgot, oops!*

This week at Sunday Stamps we have a fun sketch for you! I used some Park Lane DSP for my background, mounted on Old Olive card stock. My flower is from the set Flower Patch and was stamped in Daffodil Delight and the matching framelit was used to cut it out. On a panel of Whisper White I stamped the sentiment in Calypso Coral and then added some leaves. The panel is popped up with dimensionals and the banner is placed underneath it.

Make sure you head over to Sunday Stamps to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

Butterflies and Lace for Friday Mashup

This week at The Friday Mashup Cynthia is our hostess and she'd like to see projects with butterflies and lace on them.

I thought for sure I had some lace left over from my cross stitching days but as I dug through my drawers I began to get worried. Finally, wayyyyyy down in the recesses of my thread drawer I found some blue lace that matched the Night of Navy DSP I had pulled out. It was a big bigger than I had wanted but I made it work.

I embossed a piece of Whisper White with the retired Framed Tulips TIEF and adhered it to a card base of Night of Navy. I used some retired Night of Navy DSP to cover up the bottom half of the card. I then adhered the lace across the card.

I used the Butterflies Thinlets to make 2 butterflies, one in Daffodil Delight and one in Night of Navy. They were popped up with dimensionals on the card.

Make sure and head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us!

Patriotic Thoughts

As soon as I saw the sketch over at Create with Connie and Mary I instantly thought of the set For Your Country. With the recent loss of the 6 US Marines in Nepal and Memorial Day coming up my mind is on the brave men and women of the US military. I know how lucky I am that my husband spent 20 years serving and came home safe to us every time. Many of our friends are still serving and now friends of my kids are in the military so this card will definitely find a good home.

I used Real Red DSP from Polka Dot Parade and some Pacific Point from retired Brights DSP to create the border on the side and then put a strip of retired Real Red ribbon down the edge. The panel of Whisper White was embossed with the Lucky Stars TIEF after I stamped the sentiment at the bottom in Pacific Point. The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Whisper White and then adhered to a Pacific Point Starburst circle. The image panel was then popped up with dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by!

Kinda Eclectic Celebration for Friday Mashup

This week at The Friday Mashup Breelin is our host and she wants us to make a card for a celebration, plus use the colors Night of Navy, Crushed Curry and Bermuda Bay.

I pulled out the set Kinda Eclectic and used Night of Navy for the circle border, Crushed Curry for the sun and Bermuda Bay for the butterfly, which was also popped up with dimensionals.

The card base is Night of Navy and I adhered a panel of Whisper White to it that had been embossed with the Polka Dot TIEF. I then created 2 banners from Crushed Curry and Night of Navy DSP and adhered that to the Whisper White piece. The image panel was then popped up with dimensionals over the banners.

For the celebration part I stamped the sentiment "Finally a day that really is all about you", which I forgot to take a picture of, ooops! I thought it was a nice sentiment that can be used for many celebrations, such as graduations or birthdays.

Make sure to head over to The Friday Mashup to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

  • Create a project using the colors Crushed Curry, Night of Navy, Bermuda Bay
  • Create a project with a Celebration theme
  • Mash it Up and create a Celebration project using the colors above

You Made My Day

I had some time this afternoon to craft so I started looking through challenge blogs and found this great sketch over at CAS(E) this Sketch. I wanted to make a card with a butterfly for my sister in law so this sketch was the perfect starting point.

The card base is Coastal Cabana and I used a strip of Best Year Ever DSP backed with some Calypso Coral card stock and ribbon. The Crushed Curry was a bit bright by itself against this DSP so I cut out the butterfly in both Crushed Curry and Calypso Coral. and the coral definitely helped tone it down against the paper.

The sentiment is from A Dozen Thoughts and was stamped in Soft Suede. The card still lacked a little something for me so I did what I usually do when I feel that way, paper pierce the edges!

Thanks for stopping by!

A Country Christmas for TTS

This week at 'Tis The Season we have a color challenge....Kraft, Cherry, Gray and Red. I knew I wanted to do a card using the Holiday Home set from SU and my wheels began to turn.

I stamped the 3 house images in Memento Tuxedo Black on Cherry Cobbler, Basic Gray and Real Red. I used their coordinating dies to cut them out and then popped them up with dimensionals on the Crumb Cake card base. I took a strip of Basic Gray DSP, sponged the edges and then adhered that under the houses, kind of like a road. At this point I brought out some sentiments and asked my husband which one I should use. He looks at the card and says "what do the houses have to do with Christmas? DOH! I told him I wasn't done yet and to just humor me. I ended up going with this sentiment from the retired set Many Merry Messages.

To finish off the card I stamped the Santa in his sleigh in basic gray going across the  sky and then I used my white gel pen to add falling snow. I then took the card back out to hubby and he goes "oh wow, that's an awesome Christmas scene". ROFL, men!

Make sure you head over to the 'Tis The Season blog to see what the rest of the design team came up with and then play along with us!

You're a Great Catch Birthday!

I made time today to play along with the current SugarPea sketch challenge, as I have missed out on the last few ones!

I grabbed one of my favorite SugarPea sets, Great Catch and used Orchard Harvest DSP from SU (retired) to create my little scene. I love these papers, they have a great outdoor feel to them that went perfectly with this stamp! I added some Island Indigo and Cajun Craze Candy Dots to finish off the card.

Thanks for stopping by, don't forget to check out the SugarPea Designs blog!

I'm playing along with the Get This Party Started linky party at Paper Issues.

Crisp Cantaloupe Daisies

I've wanted to play along with the Colour Me challenge blog for a while but never seemed to catch it before the deadline ended. Today I made time to play along with them before the challenge closed, wooohooo!

This week it's a monochromatic theme with the color Crisp Cantaloupe and any neutral of your choice so I used Whisper White. I grabbed one of my favorite retired sets, Upsy Daisy. I stamped the image in Crisp Cantaloupe on Whisper White and then adhered it to the card base with dimensionals. The card base is Crisp Cantaloupe and I paper pierced around the edges. I was going to use a white gel pen to connect the piercing for a faux stitched looked but decided against it. The banners were made using Crisp Cantaloupe DSP, which will be retiring shortly. The card is so soft and pretty in person, I love it!

My layout uses the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches. I love this sketch!

Thanks for stopping by!

Best Dad Ever for Sunday Stamps

This week at Sunday Stamps we have a fun color challenge! The colors might seem intimidating to some but I really think so much can be done with them so let your imaginations fly!

I decided to make a Father's Day card with these colors and grabbed a set I haven't used since getting it when it first came out (bad me!), Wetlands. I love this set and I honestly don't know why I haven't inked it up before.

Using one of the stamps from the Work of Art set I stamped 3 colors to create my beach scene....Lost Lagoon, Coastal Cabana and Basic Gray. The little sandpipers were stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. The stamped the sentiment in Basic Gray ink on Whisper White and created a banner to place under the little scene. Both panels are popped up with dimensionals. The black background was embossed with the Houndstooth TIEF to get some texture on the card.

I hope you'll stop by the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us! Remember you can use any colors you have that are similar to the ones in the photo, it doesn't have to be SU.

Serene Silhouettes for Friday Mashup

Happy Friday! It's time for another Friday Mashup challenge and this week Amy is our hostess. She'd like us to create a Mother's Day project and to use a recycled/upcycled item on it also.

I have zero contact with my own mother so my card is being sent to the woman I consider my step mom. I've known her since I was 12 and her and my dad started dating a few years after my parents divorced. They were engaged to be married when my father was diagnosed with cancer and he passed before they could do anything. It will be 5 yrs this October since my dad passed but she still treats me and my family like one of her own and she has been there for me while I struggled with losing my dad. So yep, this card is for her!

I didn't mash up the challenge because I don't really keep extra stuff around, not anything that appeals to me in card use anyway. Maybe I'm just not creative enough to see what stuff can be used for, I don't know LOL

The sketch is from a recent Freshly Made Sketches challenge, I like they layout.

Make sure to head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT did and then play along with us!

Use Your Stuff Monday #2

I'm joining my friends Holly and Rita once again to use something in my stash that hasn't been used yet and this time we are using dies. I pulled out the Home Sweet Home die by SugarPea Designs. I've had it about a month or so, it's a brand new die that they recently released.

Since we are challenging ourselves to use stuff in our stash I used paper from S.E.I. that has been sitting on my shelf for a while. I liked the orange polka dot paper, it just seemed to pop out at me.

I cut out "home" 4 times and then glued them all together to get some dimension. I used one of the sentiments from the SugarPea set Happy Mail, it goes perfectly with this die!

To finish off the card I took put a strip of the orange paper along the bottom and then rounded the bottom corners of the card.

Do you have dies in your stash that you haven't used? Join us and get that stuff out of your stash!

I'm also entering this into the SugarPea Designs Anything Goes Challenge!
