Share the Spotlight for Power Poppy

It's Monday and that means it's time for Inspire Me Monday over at the Power Poppy blog and I happen to be the host this week!

Most days I feel like I barely have time to breathe, let alone craft, so today I decided to highlight the Spotlight Technique. This is a super fun and easy way to highlight a certain part of your image and get creative in a short amount of time!

I created 2 cards for this technique, here is the first one.....

Because today is Memorial Day in the United States I decided to use the digital set Perfect Poppies with a red, white and blue theme. I knew I wanted a sentiment so on the copy on the left I placed the sentiment where I wanted it and changed the color to blue.

Next, on the 2nd copy of the image, decide what part of the flower is going to be your focal point and cut it out.

Once you have the part of your image you plan on spotlighting cut out it out and color it.

Now take your first image, adhere it to your card base and then add your spotlighted portion. I used pop up adhesive on the back of mine to get extra dimension.

Card #2

For my second card I followed the exact same steps, except this time I used the digital set Garden Fireworks.

This time I decided to go with a square shape for my image panels, using the smaller square to die cut my spotlight piece.

Now just put your card together and get your spotlighted image in place.

By using this technique it took me less than 15 mins per card to get everything done! That left me plenty of time to go finish watching the new season of Stranger Things with my family :)

If you've never tried this technique (or even if you have!) I hope you give it a chance and if you do, stop by and share a link to your creation in the comments section!

Memorial Day

It is Memorial Day in the United States. Today we honor and pay tribute to all the brave men and women who have laid down their lives for our country. It is not about sales, or who has the biggest BBQ...it is about remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice, the reason why we are free to have sales and BBQ's and children running free.

Every year my family and I attend the Memorial Day ceremony at the Alaska Veterans Memorial to honor the heroes of our country. We will never forget.

Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day. It is not about giving thanks to those currently serving, or those veterans that are alive and have previously served. Today is the day to look around at the freedoms you are afforded and remember WHY you have those freedoms. It's because of the men and women who have laid down their lives for this country while serving in our great military. Everyday families across our country are missing a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, a mother, a father...all because the ultimate sacrifice was made.

As you sit around watching your kids run through the yard, or you're standing in line to buy your BBQ supplies just remember to thank those that died and who have helped keep our country free.

Memorial Day

Today (and this entire weekend) my family and I have honored and remembered those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for this country in order to keep us free. This weekend is not about BBQ's or welcoming summer to us, its about the men and women who served in our nations military, and who will never be coming home.

I'll be leaving the house in a bit to accompany my friend to Anchorage for a Memorial Day ceremony. My friend is a Gold Star Mom, which means she lost a child to war. He was killed Jan. 7, 2006 in a helicopter crash in Iraq and he is one of the young men being remembered at today's ceremony.. This day is for him, and for all the other fallen heroes. Thank you, and we will never forget.

Yesterday we attended the ceremony at the Alaska Veterans Memorial at Byers Lake with the same friend I'm going to Anchorage with today. The dog tags on these boots are from fallen Alaska warriors. Her son's dog tags are on these boots.
