Let's Flamingo for Sunday Stamps

This week at Sunday Stamps we have a color challenge for everyone to play along with. If you've been by my blog before it's no secret that I can't stand the color pink and so on my card I tried to limit my use of it and used the brown as my primary color.

A good friend of ours loves flamingos and she helped us out recently when we bought our house so even though she lives just down the street I'm going to pop this card into the mail to her to give her a little surprise and let her know how much we treasure her friendship!

My card base is thick Whisper White from SU with a layer of some retired Early Espresso DSP and retired ribbon. The flamingos are from MFT and cut with Pink Pirouette and sponged with Blushing Bride. The sentiment was stamped in Early Espresso and is from the MFT set Tickled Pink.

Head on over to the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

Winter Memories

I recently discovered a new (to me) challenge blog through my friend Jayme. The challenge is called Retro Rubber Challenge and it's all about using stamps older than a year. It's not specific to SU but since I have over 500 SU sets, over half of that retired sets, I thought this would be a great challenge to help get some of those older sets dusted off and out in the open again!

This weeks theme is "winter" and so I grabbed the SU set Winter Memories. I think its from 2012 but don't remember for certain.I love all the images in this set but this one of the kids making a snowman is perfect for a winter theme.....unless of course you live in my part of Alaska and there is no snow and it's 44 degrees at the end of February (insert angry face here).

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I don't know if it's just me but I am unable to leave a comment on the RRC site....when I view the blog none of the "t"'s in the blog text are working (they look like "l" and it wouldn't let me type small "t"'s when I tried to leave a comment....not sure what's going on!

It's that time of year when seniors in high school are starting to think about upcoming graduation and the future that lays ahead. My nephew will be leaving us in August and heading to Boulder CO for culinary school and thinking about him and his classmates approaching the end of their high school careers helped inspire this card. I've already been down this road with my older 2 kids so you'd think I wouldn't be so emotional about it but I am LOL.

I used the SPD set 'Going Places'and used lots of bright colors to bring the card to life. Getting out on your own should be bold and fun so that's what I tried to convey with the colors and DSP.

Stencil Birthday for Friday Mashup

This week at The Friday Mashup it's all about stencils and birthdays! I pulled out some MFT products to create my card.

I made my background using the Large Grid stencil and ink from SU. I took a sponge and just sponged the colors back and forth across the stencil until I got the look I desired. The bunnies and sentiment are from the BB Somebunny set from MFT. I just think these little bunnies are so adorable! I colored them with Copics and adhered them to the sentiment panel with dimensionals. To finish the card off I added some enamel dots from Doodlebug.

Head on over to The Friday Mashup to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

I've got 2 boys and they have always loved dinosaurs. My 17 yr old is especially fond of them and as a huge movie buff he really enjoys all the Jurassic Park movies. As soon as I saw the Prehistoric Pals set I had to have it so I could make dino cards for my boys!

I wanted the scene to be the focus of the card so I used the layout from the sketch and surrounded it with white space so the colors from the scene would really pop.

Happy Camper for Sunday Stamps

This week at Sunday Stamps we have a sketch to work with. For some reason my mojo left the building and it took me a few days to come up with an idea for this card but I finally did!

My family and I love to camp, Alaska offers so many wonderful spots to enjoy, and with winter bypassing us this year my thoughts have turned to the various trips we plan on making this summer. With that on my mind I grabbed the MFT set 'Roughing It' to create my card.

If you haven't noticed I gravitate towards dark colors and this card follows my usual pattern. I can't help it, I love browns and greens! Sahara Sand is used on this card so that helps lighten it up a bit but yet still keep the nature/outdoor theme.

Head on over to the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT did and then play along with us!

You're the Coolest

Yesterday afternoon I was working on another project and ended up discarding the card base because the color and pattern just didn't work with what I was going for. Later that evening I had more time to stamp and so I decided to try the latest Freshly Made Sketch and saw that card base just sitting there and I figured I'd try and make it work. Well, work it did! I love it when things work out like that :)

I used a set from MFT called Penguins in Paradise to create my card. I'm not a fan of tropical weather at all, anything above 70 degrees is way too warm for me, but I adore penguins and this set is just too cute!

I colored in the penguin and palm tree with copics and cut out a circle using the MFT Zig Zag Stitch Circle dies. I adhered the images to the circle and the sentiment banner was created using MFT Blueprints and it was stamped in Pumpkin Pie ink.

Thanks for stopping by!

For today's card I used the adorable set 'Tons of Fun'. I just love this sweet elephant! I colored him in with Copics and popped him up with dimensionals above a panel of white embossed cs. I created the banners using the new SugarCuts Stiched Flags. I added a bit of faux stitching on the flags with a white gel pen.

Pizza My Heart for FM

It's Friday, woohooo! I am so glad this week has come to an end, it's been a busy one! Today is even more special because it's my 22nd wedding anniversary. I can't believe it's been 22 yrs! It's been quite the ride and I look forward to the next 22 with my hubby!

Today's Friday Mashup is perfect for my special day....it's either about creating a project for your Valentine or create a project featuring a candy image. We don't do Valentine's Day in my house but hubby is my love so we'll go with the general love theme.

I don't have any candy images so I used a new set from Lawn Fawn called Pizza My Heart. Pizza is very popular in my house and while my husband, daughter and nephew love all kinds of stuff on their pies me and the other kids like good ol' pepperoni, so that's the pizza I made. I did some basic coloring with copics and then popped with pizza up on an embossed panel.

My layout was inspired by the current Freshly Made Sketch, although I had to make all my elements bigger than what the sketch called for due to the size of my sentiment.

Green Trees for TTS

It's time for another challenge at 'Tis The Season and this time we have a color challenge. I love the colors this week...2 shades of green, white and silver/gray.

For my starting point I used a recent sketch from The Paper Players and used the SU set Festive Trees for my 3 trees. 2 of the trees are stamped in Mossy Meadow and the front one is stamped in Garden Green. They are adhered to a circle base cut out of Smoky Slate and embossed with the Falling Snow TIEF. My sentiment is from the set Scenic Season.

I used their set Foxy Friend for this weeks sketch. When we first moved to Alaska in 2008 one of our very first wildlife encounters was with young fox kits that had been orphaned. It was an amazing experience and this sweet fox image always makes me think of that day! I colored him in with copics and popped him up against the circle. I added the sentiment in a banner across the bottom of the circle.
