Summer Love for FMS

After being here a week my nephew had to return back to CO and we took him to the airport late Saturday night. Today has just been a bit of a bummer day, missing him and just puttering around the house. When hubby and our youngest sat down to watch Godzilla I figured that was a good time to head to my craft room.

I had seen the sketch at FMS when it first came out and immediately went, wow, that's a bit intimidating. I don't really make a whole lot of square cards and I didn't know what to do for the 3 squares in the sketch. I was going through my blogroll today and the sketch popped up and I happened to look at my acrylic blocks and the idea for the card popped right into my head. Funny how stuff like that happens!

My daughter was definitely on my mind for this card. I am not a summer person at all, I prefer the cold and snow. Thankfully here in southcentral Alaska the summers aren't usually too warm and we stay a comfortable 70 or 75 degrees. My daughter LOVES the summer sun and she also loves flip flops. She wears them year round, even in the dead of winter. With her in mind I inked up my acrylic block in Bermuda Bay, spritzed it with water and then stamped it on the card. I repeated the process with Daffodil Delight and Melon Mambo. I used a stamp from Simon Says Stamp to stamp the flip flops and sentiment in StazOn. As you can see I didn't go with a square card, but kept the layout the same.

Thanks for stopping by!

Banner Love for Sunday Stamps

I apologize for my late Sunday Stamps post. I've been dealing with a horrible episode of vertigo and thanks to medication I'm finally able to get up and move again. If you've never had to deal with vertigo you are very lucky, it's awful.

This weeks challenge at Sunday Stamps is a fun sketch. I went through my stash and decided to use some retired SU colors that are perfect for spring/Easter and a Simon Says Stamp that I don't think I've ever inked up before.

The sketch has a circle over the banner but don't feel like you have to use that. Change it to any shape you'd like...we just need to be able to see the sketch in your project.

Make sure to head over to the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us!

Eat, Drink and Be Tacky

Sunday night everyone else headed to bed so I closed the door to my craft room and started to work on cards. I've accumulated some images these last few weeks due to playing along with the The Daily Marker 30 Day coloring challenge and I used one of those images on this card.

The Paper Players has a sketch this week and when I saw it I immediately thought of the ugly Christmas sweaters I colored the other day. I picked one of them out and created my card around it. It's a bit different from most of the Christmas cards I make but it's going to be perfect for a special someone on my Christmas card list!

Thanks for stopping by!

You're My Kind of Peep

It's time for another Friday Mashup but before I get into the challenge details I have to announce that after 5 yrs The Friday Mashup will be closing it's doors. The creator, Holly, has a lot on her plate right now and feels that the challenge has run it's course. Family comes first so I support Holly 100% and I am very thankful that she asked me to be on the team when the Mashup first started and has kept me on this entire time. I've learned so much over the years and have had a blast, so thank you Holly for everything!

For our last challenge we have a sketch along with an Easter theme. If you are like me and do not celebrate Easter than just use chicks or bunnies on your project!

For my card I used stamps and paper from last month's Simon Says Stamp card kit. I love peeps, I could eat a large box of them in one sitting, so I used the peep stamps to create my card. I kept the card simple, adding a few sequins to finish it off.

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then join us for our last challenge!

Hello Friend for Friday Mashup!

Whew, what a week it's been! I went to the eye doctor on Weds and found out I get to get bifocals, yeah me LOL I've never worn glasses before so this will be a change for me! On Weds I also had to take my husband to get a rental car....on his way home Tues night a young moose jumped out in front of him and he hit it. The moose and our Ford Escape did not survive the collision, although thankfully my husband is just fine! Hubby did come home with a new car tonight but I'll share that in a few more days :)

Believe it or not but the insurance co totaled the car! She was a good car, lots of great memories the last 8 yrs. RIP!
Moose hair stuck in the front end and the windshield :( We're thankful hubby didn't have any of the kids as passengers when he hit the moose. There are glass fragments all over the inside of the car.

A great thing about Friday is the  Friday Mashup! The challenge now runs for 2 weeks so there is plenty of time to Mash it Up....heck, play along with us several times if you can! This week at The Friday Mashup we have a color challenge, plus we want you to use any shimmer based item on your project...it would be Wink of Stella, Shimmer Paint, watercolors, etc. Unfortunately the only Wink of Stella I have right now is a bright red, my clear ran out, so I did not mash it up this week :(

On my card I used the top 2 colors and then the 4th color....I translated them into the SU colors Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo and Blushing Bride.

My card base is Blushing Bride and on that I used one of the stamps from the SU Gorgeous Grunge set and stamped it in Blushing Bride across the base. I used a circle from the MFT Zig Zag Stitched set and stamped the "Hello" in Bermuda Bay and the "friend" in Melon Mambo. I created the banners with some retired SU DSP.

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us!

This week's Mashup Challenge is:
  • Create a Project using 3 or more Colors pictured above and a Neutral of your Choice.
  • Create a Project using a Shimmer based product.. Watercolors, Shimmer Paints or sprays, Wink of Stella etc....
  • or Mash it Up and create a Shimmery project using 3 or more of the Colors above.

You Make Me Happy

This week at Sunday Stamps we have a sketch. It's a bit of a tricky one I think but can be interpreted in a lot of different ways!

For my card I wanted to keep it simple and make a sentiment the main focus. I took a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp set  and drew the colors from the retired SU DSP that I used. I cut it out with a die from MFT and popped it up at the top of the card.

Head over to the Sunday Stamps blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with, and then play along with us!

Sparkle and Shine for Friday Mashup

Well, another year is coming to an end and it is time for the last challenge of the year over at The Friday Mashup! I hope you have joined us throughout the year and had fun playing along!

Breelin is our last hostess of 2015 and she wants to see a New Year's themed project using the colors black, silver and gold. I had to think about this for a bit and ended up pulling out a stamp set from Simon Says Stamp called Sparkle and Shine.

I stamped the circle image around the sentiment and then the sentiment in Versamark on Basic Black card stock and used a gold embossing powder to heat emboss those elements. I punched the circle out with the 2 1/2" inch circle punch and then also used that punch to create a circle from silver glimmer paper. The gold circle was created with a 1 3/4" circle punch. My card base is Basic Black and I used a die from the MFT Blueprints 15 to cut a panel from some retired Basic Black DSP. To finish off the card I added some silver stretch cord across the top.

My card is general enough where it will work for New Years or any other type of celebration!

Head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see our new blog design, check out what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us! This challenge will last for 2 weeks!

Grateful for my Blessings

Yesterday hubby had to work and 2 of my 3 kids at home were also working so it was a quiet day at home. I decided to take advantage of that and do some stamping. Simon Says Stamp has a thankful theme for their Weds challenge so it was the perfect opportunity for me to put their November card kit to use!

I used the brown cardstock for my card base and created a layer with green patterned paper, with a scallop border created with green cardstock. Another strip of patterned paper was placed across the card and the image panel was created with one of the white prescored cards that came in the kit. I just stamped the sentiment and images on the card and cut the panel to size. The image panel is popped up with dimensionals, as are the leaves on the panel.

I think I'll send this to a good friend of mine...it's been a rough year for her family and I want them to know how much I treasure their friendship!

Summer Picnic for Friday Mashup

Another week over but that just means it's time for another Friday Mashup challenge! This week Breelin wants us to make a project using "sunshine" and also "summer picnic". I'm an oddball out because I'm not a fan of sunshine and I get REALLY grumpy if we have too many days of sun. I prefer clouds and rain in the summer and lots of snow and clouds in the winter. My friends like to tell me I have the opposite version of SAD :)

Do you do any monthly kit programs, like Paper Pumpkin or Simon Says Stamp? I did the PP for a while and am now getting SSS monthly kits and let me tell you, I am HORRIBLE at using my stuff. Every single PP I have, over a years worth? I think I've only opened one, they are all sitting in a box in my craft area. Same goes for the SSS kits, I've been getting those since November 2014 and guess what I haven't touched? I know, bad bad bad. I decided to break out of this ignoring the kit pattern and used the SSS June 2015 kit, which was full of bright colors and plenty of sun and picnic themed items!

My card base is SSS White and I used Doodlebug Sunkissed papers from the kit to cover the entire card base. To make my squares I took 2 images that were on one of the papers and cut them to represent my picnic portion, ice cream! Who doesn't love a nice ice cream when out on a picnic? For the other 2 squares I used papers that represented sunshine to me....bright green with a grass pattern and a fun yellow dotted paper. I added a smiling sun to the green pattern paper and the smile die cut on the yellow pattern paper. To finish it off I stamped the sentiment and adhered it below the squares.

Make sure you head over to the Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then link up your own sunny summer picnic project!

This weeks Mashup Challenge is:
  • Create a project with "a Summer Picnic theme".
  • Create a project with "Sunshine".
  • or Mash it Up! and create a project with " a Summer Picnic and Sunshine theme".

Ugly Sweater Christmas for TTS

It's 'Tis The Season time again and this week we have a fun sketch to play along with! You can turn it on the side, switch out the circle for another shape....as long as we can still see the basic outline of the sketch you are good to go!

I started with a base of Neenah Solar White and used some paper from Lawn Fawn to put across the bottom of the card. I then grabbed the Ugly Sweaters set from Simon Says Stamp. I absolutely love ugly sweaters and this set and with it's coordinating die and set Sweater Words and Appliques the possibilities are endless. I decided to stamp a Santa face on my sweater, added a string of lights across the bottom and then with a white gel pen I added white dots as snowflakes. The sentiment is stamped in SU Real Red and is from the SSS set Be Joyful. To finish off the top portion I added paper piercing around the edges and red rhinestones.

Head on over to the 'Tis The Season blog to see what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along with us!

Christmas Trees for Paper Players

I had a bit of time yesterday afternoon to stamp so I grabbed my November kit from Simon Says Stamp and sat down with The Paper Players current sketch for inspiration.

The kit came with Lawn Fawn Snow Day papers, I just love these papers, they are adorable! I used one of the papers that reminds me of big fat snowflakes as my main square and then added a banner of red and a scallop border, both from the same paper.

I stamped the trees in SU Garden Green and arranged them where the circle in the sketch is. I grabbed a retired SU Real Red button and some bakers twine and adhered that to the banner. On the white cardstock I added falling snow in Pool Party and the sentiment is stamped in Real Red.

Getting Ugly for TTS29

Wait, did I say ugly? That's right and by ugly I mean a good ol' ugly Christmas sweater!

When I saw the Ugly Sweater set from Simon Says Stamp I had to have it. Ugly Christmas sweaters make me smile and this set is no different. There are so many great images in this set that I know I'll have fun with it for a long time to come.

This week we have a sketch at 'Tis The Season and an ugly Christmas sweater was the first thing that came to mind, the circle spot is perfect for it. I started with paper from Lawn Fawn, it is from their Snow Day collection. The crisp lines are a great way to highlight the sentiment and to also let the sweater take center stage.

Instead of a bow I just did a strip of ribbon across the middle along with a scalloped border of Garden Green. Red and green sequins scattered across the front completed the card for me.

I hope you'll come by 'Tis The Season and play along with us! Only 48 days until Christmas!
