Patriotic Love

My nephew is entering week 7 of boot camp and I know he is feeling the pressure so I needed another card to send him some encouragement. When I saw the sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch I liked it and wanted to give it a try.

For my card I combined several current and retired SU sets. Because it's military themed I stayed with the colors of red, white and blue and after inking up all the sections I scored lines across the card, inspired by the stripes on the flag, and this gave it a little more "oomph" than when I just had the plain white card base.

Let Freedom Ring

This week at Sunday Stamps we have a color challenge, and when I first saw the colors I immediately thought of a patriotic card. With the recent loss of 15 Marines and a Navy Corpsman in a plane crash and a local solider from Wasilla killed in Afghanistan my heart is especially full of gratitude for our service members and their families. My dad was a Marine and my husband is a retired FMF Navy Corpsman  and I'm very lucky that they always came home safe. Sadly not all military families are that lucky and we must not forget why we have the freedoms we do.

The sentiment is a free one offered from Power Poppy stamps, you can find it HERE. I uploaded it to Word and changed the color to blue to go along with the scheme of my card. After using the circle die cut I used dimensionals to adhere it to the card.

My layout is from the current CAS(e) this Sketch challenge, it was perfect for what I had in my mind for my card.  After seeing some of the cards by their DT I figured it was ok to put the circle on the card like I did.

A Simple Fall Scene

I didn't have to drive into town today so I had some time to craft. I saw the current challenge for CAS(E) this Sketch come across my feed and decided to play along.

When I originally set out to make a card for this challenge I had Christmas in mind. However, when I executed the vision I had in my head it just didn't appeal to me and I started all over. I glanced out the window and decided to go with a fall theme. Here in Alaska signs of autumn are appearing everywhere...fireweed has gone to seed, the air has a certain crispness to it and leaves are starting to change.

I used a new set from SU called Happy Scenes that I recently got in my preorder. I stamped the image twice across the front and then colored it with copics. The sentiment is also from a new set coming out, that one is called Sparkly Seasons. 

I really love how it came out, it's a nice and simple card that can easily be reproduced if need be.

You Made My Day

I had some time this afternoon to craft so I started looking through challenge blogs and found this great sketch over at CAS(E) this Sketch. I wanted to make a card with a butterfly for my sister in law so this sketch was the perfect starting point.

The card base is Coastal Cabana and I used a strip of Best Year Ever DSP backed with some Calypso Coral card stock and ribbon. The Crushed Curry was a bit bright by itself against this DSP so I cut out the butterfly in both Crushed Curry and Calypso Coral. and the coral definitely helped tone it down against the paper. 

The sentiment is from A Dozen Thoughts and was stamped in Soft Suede. The card still lacked a little something for me so I did what I usually do when I feel that way, paper pierce the edges!

Patriotic Grunge

When I saw the current sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch I knew immediately that I wanted to use the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and do something patriotic. I pulled out the retired SU stamp Land of the Free to complete my card. Nice and simple!
