Independence Freshly Made

It's Saturday night here in Alaska and I hope all of my US readers are having a good 4th of July weekend! It is hot here in my neck of the woods, 80, and that's not normal for this area so my family and I have stayed inside all day avoiding the sun! We BBQ'd yesterday but that was the extent of our celebrations. We have too much daylight here to bother with fireworks so I watched the Macy's Day fireworks special on TV instead :)

My craft area is in the master bedroom and it finally "cooled" down enough in there that I felt like doing some stamping. I saw the note that
Freshly Made Sketches was still open for another day or so so I grabbed my supplies and went to work.

Have I said lately how much I adore the set For Your Country? It is hands down my favorite set in the SU catalog(well,  Walk in the Wild is a VERY close second). I wasn't sure how to use it with this sketch but I just kind of sat there going over things in my mind and it just started coming together.

For the strips under the circle portion I pulled out the set Tape It. It's actually the first time I've inked it up since I bought it last year! Next I inked up a sentiment and images from For Your Country and fussy cut them. I took the circle framelits and made a frame with them instead of using a whole circle. 2 of the banners are stamped right on the Naturals White paper, the red banner is adhered with tape and goes across the circle frame and then I adhered the sentiment banner down. The images of the boots and dog tags are popped up with dimensionals. The background was a bit stark to me so I used a stamp from Gorgeous Grunge to add a little something more. I was much happier with the card after doing that!

Thanks for stopping by, and remember to be safe this weekend if you are out celebrating!

  2. I agree, the touch of grunge splatters adds a perfect touch to the background. It matches the rest of the stamps which are not done in a clean style but a more detailed, artsy one. Good choice!
