Decorative Friday Mashup

It's time for another Friday Mashup...lets see if we can get everyone out from hiding again, since my patriotic challenge seemed to send all the crafters into their corners for the week!

This week our challenge is brought to us by Kasey and sad to say, this is her last challenge as a Friday Mashup design team member. She is moving on and we're all going to miss her. She definitely challenged me at times and got me to think out of the box, so thank you Kasey, its been a pleasure working with you!

This week Kasey wants us to use a decorative edge on our project, use ribbon  OR mash it up and use both decorative edges and ribbon. I went ahead and mashed it up...my decorative edges are in the middle of the card though so hopefully that still counts!

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup to check out the rest of the inspiration from the design team and then play along with us, we'd love to see what you come up with!

  1. Make a project " with a Decorative Edge! "
  2. Or Make a project with " Ribbon and or a Bow. "
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project " with a Decorative Edge & Ribbon ".

Stars and Santa for Merry Monday

I'm trying to get back into the crafting swing of things after the last couple of hectic weeks I've had so today I sat down and played along with the Merry Monday challenge.

This Santa with the stars was the perfect image to use for this weeks sketch. I used gold Stickles to fill in the stars for a little extra "oomph" and the main image panel is popped up with dimensionals. Santas hat, part of his coat and hair are lightly colored with Going Gray.

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Star Santa
Paper: Crumb Cake, Naturals White, Deck The Halls DSP
Ink: Black StazOn, Cherry Cobbler, More Mustard, Going Gray, Crumb Cake

Patriotic for Friday Mashup

Welcome back for another challenge at The Friday Mashup. Lisa here and this week I've got a Mashup that honors a holiday that is very near and dear to me.

In the US we celebrate Memorial Day the last Monday in May. It was formerly known as 'Decoration Day' and honored the Union soldiers lost in the Civil War. By the 20th century Memorial Day was a day to remember ALL our men and women who have been lost while serving in the military.

Some people use Memorial Day weekend to usher in the summer, to BBQ and hang out with friends and family . My family does something a little different.....  We attend local ceremonies in town that honor those that have been lost, we walk through the cemeteries and pay our respect to the fallen warriors. As a military family it is important to us to pay our respects and teach our children what the day is really about. This year we will be joining my friend, who is a Gold Star mom, at the Alaska Veterans Memorial to pay respect to her son, and to all the others who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

So as a challenge we are asking you to make a patriotic card or a card of remembrance for someone you may have known, use the colors provided below or mash it up and create a patriotic/remembrance card with the colors provided. We've also got a special part to this challenge....take your project and donate to a wounded warrior, to a loved one of a military member that has passed or to your local veterans chapter. You can also mail your cards to Holly and she will hand deliver cards to Walter Reed National Military Hospital.

  1. Make a project that's "Patriotic or for Remembrance".
  2. Or Make a project with the colors " Whisper White, Night of Navy, Poppy Parade & daffodil Delight."
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a "Remembrance or Patriotic project using the colors above."
  4. Donate your card to a Wounded Solider or that Special Service Member in your Life!

* If you would like to Donate a Card to a Wounded Service Member you can send your cards to Holly. The Red Cross at the Walter Reed National Medical Center will accept the cards and distribute them to Wounded Service Members throughout the hospital. Please send your cards to Holly Endress P.O. Box 18 Arnold, MD 21012 no later then May 31st. She will be hand delivering them to the Red Cross.

And To All a Good Night for Merry Monday and Jingle Belles

Today's card is for the Merry Monday Christmas challenge and also for the Jingle Belles challenge. I love this set and wanted to use it and so instead of using the oval shape from the sketch I went more rectangle and just rounded the corners to try and stay close to the sketch.

The Jingle Belles challenge is to use embossing, either dry or heat, and for this card I used both. The image is heat embossed with a dark blue embossing powder and then the 2 panels behind the main image are dry embossed.

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Wandering Words
Paper: Early Espresso, Riding Hood Red, Marina Mist, Naturals White, Letters to Santa DSP
Ink: Early Espresso, Riding Hood Red
Accessories: Embossing Powder, Heat gun, Big Shot, CB Swiss Dots EF, SU Snow Burst EF, Round Corner Punch, Scallop Trim Border Punch, sponge, dimensionals

Popping Up Mothers Day with Friday Mashup

Hello again! It's Friday and that makes me especially happy because next Friday I start a weeks vacation from work and boy do I need it! LOL So YEAH for Fridays!

Of course another great thing about Friday is that its time for another Friday Mashup challenge and this week our challenge is brought to us by Heidi. She wants to create a project for mom, create a pop up card or mash it up and do both! We've also got another little twist this week....you can also choose to use the photo as inspiration, as we are joining forces with Paper Lovin' Gals for this challenge.

I am not going to lie, I don't like projects that require a lot of scoring, cutting or measuring. I just don't have the patience for it. I wanted to mash up the challenge but due to the reason I just gave I went with one of the easiest pop up cards you do :) You can find the tutorial here.

Since this was my first pop up card I kept it pretty simple with just the sentiment and the addition of the butterflies. From the picture I drew some inspiration from the darker edge of the plate and some of the hearts. The rest of it is WAYYY too pink for me...I am not a fan of pink at all, lol.

Make sure you head over to both The Friday Mashup and Paper Lovin' Gals to see the projects each design team came up with for this!

  1. Make a project for "Mom, Grandmother, Aunt etc...".
  2. Or Make a project with a " Pop-Up Element ".*
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a " Pop-Up Project for Mom".
  4. Or join in Both challenges and create a "Pop-Up Project for Mom using the inspiration photo "

*There are many different variations of Pop-Ups... Make sure something pops up when you open your project.
The card popped up:

Thoughts of You Freshly Made

It's a great day for stamping here in southcentral Alaska. We have had colder weather move back in and there are clouds a plenty. They are saying there is even a small possibility of snow this weekend, which is just fine with me(I live in Alaska FOR the cold and snow!). However my husband is grumbling because a large section of ice has disappeared on the lake across the street and he is ready to go fishing. Phooey on him  LOL

I made myself a big cup of hot chocolate, opened my blinds wide and sat down to to play with this weeks sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches. As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to use the Apothecary Set, which was in the Occasion Mini. I just love the different images in this set!

This card is actually going to be a Mothers Day card for my step mom. She loves the color red and so I wanted that to be the dominant color of this card. I used Island Indigo as an accent color and sponged my edges with it, except for the main image panel and the card itself, which were both sponged with Riding Hood Red.

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Apothecary Art, Loving Thoughts
Paper: Riding Hood Red, Island Indigo, Whisper White, Twitterpated DSP
Ink: Black StazOn, Riding Hood Red, Pear Pizzazz, Island Indigo
Accessories: Framelits Labels, Big Shot, Square Lattice EF, Pearls, blender pen, sponge, dimensionals
