Clean Sports for Friday Mashup

It's my turn to host the challenge at The Friday Mashup and I'm all about the sports this week. I'm a HUGE sports fan and follow several sports(NY Giants football, Boston Celtics basketball, Boston Bruins hockey and Boston Red Sox baseball) but football is definitely the one that brings out the psycho in me! During football season you'll find me and the husband in front of the TV every Sunday watching all the games as well as our respective teams(he's a 49'ers fan, after almost 22 yrs together I've learned to overlook that, ha!). I'm really missing football right now and that's where this challenge came from. I want everyone to use the colors of your favorite sports team to make a CAS project. If you don't have a favorite team that's OK, use the colors of a team from your area or maybe your significant other has a team whose colors you can use. No matter how you do it just make sure your project is clean and simple!

As I said above the NY Giants are my favorite football team. I'll be 40 yrs old in October and I've been rooting for them since I could sit up and watch football with my dad and grandpa! Their colors are red, white and blue so I decided to go with a patriotic thank you card and the inspiration for the layout came from this weeks Sunday Stamps challenge!

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup to check out the projects from the rest of the design team!

Heartfelt Thanks for Sunday Stamps

2 weeks ago we had snow and all this week we've had temps between 80 and 84 degrees! Thats very unusual for this part of Alaska so what did I do? I hid in my bedroom today since it was somewhat cool in there and stamped! I made this card for the Sunday Stamps challenge.

As you can see I kept to the sketch except for the sentiment. I tried placing it up by the images but it just didnt look right so I moved it to the bottom of the card. I hope it still works for the challenge!

Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day. It is not about giving thanks to those currently serving, or those veterans that are alive and have previously served. Today is the day to look around at the freedoms you are afforded and remember WHY you have those freedoms. It's because of the men and women who have laid down their lives for this country while serving in our great military. Everyday families across our country are missing a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, a mother, a father...all because the ultimate sacrifice was made.

As you sit around watching your kids run through the yard, or you're standing in line to buy your BBQ supplies just remember to thank those that died and who have helped keep our country free.

Pencil Splash for Friday Mashup

Happy Friday! It's the first day of summer vacation here in southcentral Alaska, kids got out of school Thursday! Time to kick back and enjoy the time with my youngest enters high school this fall and my middle child starts college, time goes by too fast.

I did slow down to get this weeks Friday Mashup done, and this week our challenge comes from Heidi. She wants us to use pencil in our project, and also include a splash of color along with a neutral. I wont lie, the pencil part of the challenge really threw me for a loop and it took me a bit to figure out what I was going to do. I ended up choosing the truck image from the Countryside set(retiring, boo!) and colored it in with pencils, and then used Riding Hood Red to watercolor in other areas of the truck. I sure hope this use of pencil meets what Heidi was looking for!

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup blog to check out what the rest of the design team came up with!
  1. Create a project using "your choice of a Neutral & a Splash of one Bright Color".
  2. Create a project "using a Pencil (regular graphite #2)".
  3. Or Mash it Up and create a project "using pencil & your choice of a neutral & a Splash of a Bright Color".

Bright Christmas Snowman

Today's card revisits the current challenge over at the Jingle Belles blog, and it also plays along with the current sketch over at Merry Monday!

The theme for Jingle Belles is 'Merry and Bright' and with my card yesterday I just felt that I fell a little flat with the "bright" portion of the theme. Sure, the colors were something I don't normally use and were bright to me but I knew I could do something a little brighter so that is how today's card came about! Daffodil Delight and Tempting Turquoise definitely make a bright combo and I feel much better about this card meeting the challenge theme!

I stayed true to the sketch, keeping all the elements Lesley has on it. The circle with the snowman is popped up with dimensionals. I did put glitter on the snowball and snowman after I took the picture though. I had meant to do it before snapping the photo but got sidetracked with making dinner and thought about it after I had the photos loaded already, ooops!

Merry and Bright for Jingle Belles

Last week I was busy with my daughters high school graduation and then we went out of town to watch her boyfriends soccer team so this is my first day crafting in over a week!

I wanted to make sure that I played along with this weeks challenge over at the Jingle Belles blog, which is all about bright colors. Now when I pulled out the paper I used for my card I see "bright". Its pink and a green that's a lot more vibrant than I would use for Christmas. I'm very traditional when it comes to Christmas colors so these colors are really out of my comfort zone. They seem kind of calm in the photo but I promise, this card is pretty bright in person! If I get time tomorrow I may try another card with a bright yellow, something you really wouldn't think Christmas for!

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Welcome Christmas
Paper: Rose Red, Naturals White, K&Company Peppermint Twist Paper
Ink: Rose Red, Pear Pizzazz
Accessories: Cuttlebug, Snowflakes EF, Paper Piercer, Triple Heart Punch, dimensionals, sponge

O' Tannenbaum for Merry Monday

I finally got my card done for Merry Monday! This sketch was a toughie and I ended up pulling out an older retired SU set called O'Tannenbaum. I thought the tree was a good image for the left side of the card and I kept the rest of the card simple since I wanted the focus on the Christmas tree.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend, thanks for stopping by!

Sketchy Sets for Friday Mashup

This week at The Friday Mashup Amy has a great sketch for us. It's a wonderful way to show off some of your favorite DSP, along with your image! She also wants us to create a set of cards with this sketch and well, I came close! I managed to get 2 cards done, but haven't had time to make anymore. Between work, pre-graduation activities and life in general I haven't had much crafting time this week.

I decided to go with a masculine theme and pulled out some of my favorite DSP that I've been hoarding, Well Worn. I just love these papers! I think I may cry a bit when I run out of it, lol.

I made a card that can be a general congratulations or also for a graduation, and then I made a birthday card. I really love how they came out and a friend of mine snatched them right up and bought them for her son!

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup to see all the other great inspiration from the rest of the design team!

How many other crafters have this problem? Darn Calliope just HAS to check out what I'm doing!

Graduating For Friday Mashup

Another week has come to a close and that means its also time for a Friday Mashup challenge! This week Liliana brings us the challenge and its all about graduation and embossing of any kind.

I was really happy to see the theme for this week as I need a lot of graduation cards right now! My daughter graduates from high school May 16th! She actually graduated early, in December, but she walks with her class and makes it official on the 16th. Her boyfriend, who lives across the Valley and goes to a different high school, graduates on the 14th. So between my daughter, her boyfriend and their friends I have a lot of cards to make!

For the challenge I started with my daughters card. Her school colors are red and black, so that's what I used on the card. I did dry embossing with the hexagon EF and I used my Cricut for the '2013'.

I cant believe she is graduating high school and starting college (University of Alaska-Anchorage!) in the fall. It seems like just yesterday she was going to preschool!

Make sure you head over to the Friday Mashup blog to check out all the great inspiration from the rest of the design team!
